Im not sure how long it would take me to drive to TO if I could go straight across the lake, but, it takes me about 1 1/2 hours to drive to TO in light traffic, cause you have to go around it.

Today it was Carolina's turn to unveil their new jerseys and, at first glance, I like them.

It looks like NHL teams are now getting the message: Simpler is better.

(And we have the Canucks to thank for it! )

That happens to be my favourite team!

Besides, I'll wear it no matter what it looks like. Their official unveiling will be next Wed. Only one team will be up before then, and that's the Minnesota Wild, and they're due tomorrow,

Sorry Sal, nothing personal Actually, I feel everyone can root for whomever they want , its all good........Personally, I hope the Leafs go back to the old 50s/early 60s style jersey and Leaf design permanently (Rather than as a third sweater), it would be very classy, dont you think? ( Just dont ask me to root for them )

It's OK, I understand now.

I love the '60s look as well, and I'm a big believer in maintaining history and tradition, especially among the Original 6, but I wouldn't expect too many changes from what they have now. Besides, I think some teams, like for instance Carolina or Calgary, might have gone for a different look if they so desired, and that would have fine, but, I think Vancouver might have scared them off. So I would expect from the Leafs the same look as what they have now. Now for a team like the Minnesota Wild that hasn't been around that long, tradition isn't a factor, so any change would be welcome, as long as its not overdone and hideous. They're up today and I'll have their uniform up later this evening. See you then.

Yeah, those are just horrrrrrrrrrrrrrible (Mind you Vanc has a history of terrible jerseys)....what is really funny is the look on the players faces when they were revealed , they look as disgusted as the fans in the stands do!
( btw, I wasnt kidding, I really DID burst out laughing when i saw them )

How I dream of the day we can get our NHL back from Bettman...he must be stopped!!!

Hey Sal....when you get to be NHL commissioner....can you use an assistant? between us we could make sure to put Canadian concerns back to the forefront.

I seem to remember that the NHL is supposed to have 3 main offices from which they conduct business: Toronto, Montreal, and New York. What I would like to do is work from the Toronto office, Mikado would handle the Montreal office, and Wayne Gretzky would operate from New York. I think between the 3 of us we should be able to fix the NHL.

One problem that would be addressed would be the new jerseys. I would put in a couple of specific rules regarding jerseys and logos that would look like this:

1. Once you make a change, you have to stick with it for at least 5 years. All changes would have to be approved by the Commissioner and his assistants.

2. Home teams wear white, road teams wear dark.

3. Use only horizontal stripes instead of vertical or diagonal.

4. No more than two colours can be used.

5. Regarding logos: If I can't draw it, you can't use it!

Rule #5 would apply for teams like the Minnesota Wild. I have no idea what their logo is supposed to look like. See if you can figure it out for yourself. Their new jerseys came out today. Here they are:

I like the dark, retro-style uniform. I don't know why they couldn't have used a similiar model for the white uniforms. Oh well...it's their loss.

i think both are ok......as for your rules for the unis, for the most part i agree, except for the dark jerseys on the road.....I take it youre under 40 but, when i was a kid the dark jerseys WERE the home jerseys ( Most of Montreals Stanley cup pics are in the red unis cause that WAS the home sweater, and should stay the home sweater, in my opinion ) the change to white sweaters at home came around 1970 ( i forget the exact year....too lazy to look it up ), when the NHL decided that the dark and white jerseys for oppposing teams would be easier to distinguish on TV...now, with TV universally in colour, this is an outdated idea, and i'm happy to see my Habs in Red again! ( the "white" jerseys were created by Montreal in the 40s to wear when they were visiting the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Black Hawks who also wore unis that were predominantly red.....later , other NHL teams created white unis of their own. ) ps. I prefer the "retro" 1945 Montreal white jersey to the regular one

You're right, it was 1970 when they made the switch. I heard that it was because the team trainers had a hard time washing the white jerseys on the road all the time since it was easier for dirt and stains to show up on the white jerseys than on the dark, or something like that.

Anyway, whenever I see a game that involves one of the Original 6 teams, I don't mind them wearing dark at home because it does take you back to the old days, but, with some of the newer teams (complete with their ugly logos), if you don't see them that often, it's hard to tell who they are or even who they're playing against. In their case, seeing them wear white at home just makes it easier for everyone to follow. And since we're all used to this system which is used in all sports, we might as well stick with it, except on special occasions like Opening Night, retirement ceremonies for certain players, the Hall Of Fame Game in Toronto in November, and all Original 6 meetings vs each other. In that case, making the switch adds more class to the evening. But every night? Sorry, but it's not for me.

Ill stop watching the day they use those rediculous nets with the giant corners that they experimented with...because idiot Bettman thinks hockey needs more scoring, rather than LESS TEAMS!!!!!
