we have to realize that we all have it easy and count our blessings but it's nice to do something for people who really need it. My cousin went to a ball game and they had some homeless people outside and she bought them some ice cream.

There are very few good jobs out there trust me I know I have one of the worst jobs I've been there for almost 3 years and I'm only making $8.21 if my mom wasn't here for me I'd be out on the street just like these guys and alot of you would be too if it weren't for your parents. If you have a high paying job you are either very lucky or you were able to go to college and these people can't afford homes do you think they can afford college?

I think it's easy to criticize homeless people when you've never experienced firsthand what it's like to not have somewhere warm to stay. It has nothing to do with laziness. A lot of these people got dealt a bad hand, through no fault of their own. A great example of this happening in epidemic proportions is the film Roger & Me, a documentary chronicling the closure of a GM plant in Flint, MI.

I really think most of you will change your opinions once you get out on your own and discover how hard it is to support yourself.

I agree that it is wrong for people that actually have money to get out and beg, just to have money for alcohol.and whatever else, but there are some people that really are homeless. They get in a bad situation, say they loose their job, causing them to loose their home. Sometimes its hard for people to find work, especially if you don't have money to make yourself look presentable...and that puts them in to a spiral, where they can't find a job, and become worse off.


I know that some people are really just lazy, but sometimes, this may sound nieve, I do feel sorry for them. Especially if there are children around, and I realize that they could just be using kids to make people feel sorry for them, but I don't think everyone is like that. I don't know, maybe thats an ignorant way to think, but thats just my opinion on the situation.

They could live in a shelter or something like that until they save up enough money to take care of themselves. None of this, "Will work for food" crap. Jenya - No, you don't have to have a high school diploma to work at McDonalds. A friend of mine used to work there back when she was 16 and in 11th grade. Another boy I once knew worked there at age 17 and was in 12th grade.

It's not that easy. And like I said, the above easy to say if you've never been in a homeless situation before. Sometimes, there simply aren't any jobs to get or any shelters to stay at.

1. Find a safehouse and stay there.

2. Go around town and find a job, no matter how small the amount of money they get is. It could be just holding up a sign all day.

3. Buy some food, and save some of your money.

4. Repeat until you can afford shelter.

That's easy to say when you're supported by your parents (ah, to be young again), but I'm afraid it's just not that simple.

Yes, its possible to save up and get back on track, but it doesnt happen as fast or as easily as you guys make it sound. No one truly knows what its like to be homeless until you yourself are the one outside looking in, wondering if youre going to survive the winter.

The only problem I have with WIC and EBT/Foodstamps is that (some) of the people who use them smoke too. I work at a grocery store and it pisses me off to know end when I see someone pay their cigarettes with an EBT card. I cant believe when I see a girl about 18-20 years old buying baby food with WIC and then after buys cigarettes. Two years ago I was bagging for a lady and she bought alcohol, baby food, and a bunch of other food. Needless to say, she was short on cash. Instead of taking out the beer, she started taking out the baby food. I was distgusted. The lady behind her insisted on buying the baby food for her. Nice gesture on her part, but that lady shouldve known better. People need to get their priorities straight.

If I was homeless and unable to find work, I would kill myself. Why suffer? Why make other people suffer by causing the entire world to reak with my nasty smelling body? Why make other people put up with my constant begging? I would just run in front of an eighteen wheeler truck or impale myself on a stop sign [after ripping off the sign part, of course].

I agree with you on people who use the whole Welfare thing in the wrong way. I know of people who give away their food stamps in exchange for drugs. Sick people who disgust me and don't deserve to even exist.

I kind of agree too, actually....I gave this one homeless, toothless man who was begging for money a little bit of money...like, ten dollars, when I was on vacation once because I felt sorry for him....and all he did with it was go in this store and beg for liquor, like really loud...then he got kicked out and started running around like crazy and begging someone for more money, and yelling the white man is corrupt or something. It was just sad. I do, however, think that some people are on welfare because they dont have any other way to survive. I dont think that everyone that is on welfare is a total bum or whatever, but the ones that are really make me sick...

Yeah, people like that give homeless people and people on welfare a bad reputation. Not every homeless person is looking to buy alcohol. Some need $$$ for their families.

A rule I follow is that I never, under any circumstances, give money to panhandlers. Instead, I make an annual contribution for a local homeless charity.
