Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" didn't go to #1?That's surprising.I wonder what sold more.

true but if a country artist scores a #1 POP hit, doesn't that negate it all? since it's more dificult for a country artist to top the Hot 100 than it is the country charts.

Smells Like Teen Spirit peaked at #6 on Billboard's Hot 100.

yeah, I think Nevermind, or maybe In Utero made it to number 1 on the album charts, but none of the songs ever did.

I didn't mean that your information was wrong. I meant that it's wrong that she hasn't had a #1 yet. So many of her songs are #1 quality. Oh well, with the way country radio works today, it won't ever happen.

Ok, I just have to toss this in here!

In 1964 The Beatles had 6 #1 hits(amazing!) and 2 # 1 albums and about 20 top 100 hits! Plus 1 movie and 1 book. Also they had the highest viewing audience on t v at the time. Not bad for 1 year!

And some people here dare to say that they are overrated!

well, it could be a generational thing. I like the Beatles, but I don't think they were the greatest thing ever (however, I wasn't even born when they broke up and am more familiar growing up with the solo recordings). Most of the people who say the Beatles are overrated (as well as those who say the same about Elvis) are younger and the impact had already been made, so they can't remember exactly how much they shook the music world up when they came out.

Hell, this happens for all generations, I see lots of todays teens who are "what is the big fuss about Nirvana" when that was all but a decade ago.

when SLTS was top 10, "classics" like Right Said Fred "I'm Too Sexy" and Color Me Badd's "All For Love" was up there, and I think MJ's Black Or White was still at #1 when it first entered the top 10.

As someone posted on another thread, SLTS was a hit, but history was rewritten on April 8, 1994 (it happened April 5, but 8 was when the news broke out) to where people thought SLTS was comparable to the Beatles' first US hit. The song was certainly a hit song, and so was the album, but after Cobain's death, the song took on a whole life on it's own and became treated as more than a mere "early 90's rock hit".

I don't think The Moody Blues ever had a #1 hit in the US. I don't know about other countries though.
