You Can Count On Me is an excellent movie.

I also recommend Ulee's Gold.
Peter Fonda is fantastic in an incredible understated performance.

And as far as the original Solaris goes, it is a lot longer than the remake and painstakingly poetic in its message.

Pretty long and boring for most folks to take, but when I caught it in the right mood I was seriously impressed.

In the Bedroom is a pretty slow movie, but I love it.

All of the British costume dramas that I love but no one will watch with me: Howards End, Wings of the Dove, Remains of the Day, Portrait of a Lady, and A Room With a View.

Some of the 'epics' are very hard to sit through, but are definately worth it: Lawrence of Arabia, Ben-Hur, etc. And I did like The English Patient, although I know if I have to sit through it again it will become painful.

Solaris is fascinating and 2001 has always been a favorite- the book is great too.
Believe it or not, the original Solaris was edited from 200 minutes to 172 minutes. Just thought you'd be interested in that if you thought 172 minutes was long. The 200 minute (director's cut) version is available on an all region DVD from Ruscico Home Video. However, it's only availabe in Eastern Europe. You'll have to hunt around for it on the internet if you want a copy.

Yes I've seen that version on ebay and I do have an all region player that plays PAL as well.

I just bought the Criterion version, and I think they include the deleted scenes (i haven't opened it yet). And I think this version is actually longer than the Rustico one.

There is a great comparison here:
