People might say Control is her first "real" album, Janet herself seems to not perform any songs from those first two, but I was into her from the start. "Come Give Your Love To Me" was my song. Of course Jesse Johnson produced a couple of songs on Dream Street so I liked that one as well.
I think people are way too harsh on Janet's debut album from 1982. I do think Dream Street is BAD, probably the nadir of Giorgio Moroder's production career, but I think "Janet Jackson" had some great period-era r&b

I always liked the song "Dream Street", I remember an episode of Fame where that song was included, thought it was catchy. As far as Giorgio goes, Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" is probably his masterpiece anyway. Janet's debut though did have some pretty good uptempo songs for that time. It came out somewhere around the same time as MJ's Thriller, give or take a month or two.

Solar was a great label that I read folded up because of money problems. I like the Whispers, Lakeside's Fantastic Voyage single (one of the best songs of 1981), Dynasty was also very good. I'm surprised anyone even remembers them.

Shalamar had several good singles: Second Time Around, This is for the Lover in You, A Night to Remember. I like the Midnight Star singles like Curious, Wet My Whistle and Midas Touch with the guy singing lead instead of the girl.

SOLAR was originally stand for "Soul Of Los Angeles Records". It featured artists like the Whispers, Shalamar (in which they got their start on the label called "Soul Train" Records), Babyface and Klymaxx. I like the song by Klymaxx called "Sexy" and I love the opening introduction.
