Smart and her family did those interviews as part of her healing. When Katie Couric talked to Elizabeth she asked her things like "how is school" and "how is the harp?" She wasn't invasive or rude about anything she asked. It was all tastefully done. Elizabeth, as well as Jessica (but I did not watch her movie last night, I taped it) went through a terrible ordeal and no one should be able to criticize how she and her family deal with it. The movie didn't show anything about the sexual assault that Mitchell/Barzee have been charged with but everyone knows it was there. I thought the movie was tastefully done as well as Couric's interview. I did not see Oprah's.

Almost every day, there is a soldier or soldiers killed in Iraq, yet there is a move made on Jessica Lynch, because she got rescued?
How does being rescued, make her a hero?

The Elizabeth Smart movie, was too soon. That is a type of movie you might expect to see years after Elizabeth was rescued, not eight months later.

I don't think Elizabeth's parents are exploiting her, but I do think they are somewhat naive.

Yeah except these grown men go there knowing that they may not come back alive, these little girls were kidnapped and in fear for their lives. Well, referring to Elizabeth here. Elizabeth Smart was gone for 9 months, that's alot of torture to endure. Also a long time to be away from your parents at that age.

And how does a soldier who comes back alive get called a "hero"? Go figure. She is a hero, she survived those 9 months and believe it or not being kidnapped isn't any fun. I don't even know how I would have got through all that, and she did, now she's moving on with her life. She was a hero to tell the police her name with that fear that her and her parents might be murdered because of it.

You're second paragraph (sorry, I forgot how to use edit) is very confusing. You seem to be talking about 2 different things.

You are defending what Elizabeth went through, yet I never said anything negative. I only implied, that it was too soon for a TV Movie. I do agree with what you said, though.

You can't tell by username, but I am female. And Jessica Lynch is getting all this media attention, because she is female. A male soldier, would not be getting this attention.

I don't have a problem with the Elizabeth Smart movie, her parents okayed it, so what were getting (I did not see it), is probably close to the truth.

As for the Jessica Lynch movie, who knows what to believe?

I think it was too soon for both movies- but especially for Jessica Lynch considering no one really knows what she went through, I thought this was the main thing that came across in the movie. They kept showing the same scene with the helicopters going in to rescue her. I also was disapointed that they skipped from her being reuinted with her family to her in a parade- there was a lot of recovery time in between that was completely ignored.

Elizabeth Smart I didn't watch but I hope it will be reaired. Again, emtionally I think this one was too fresh in people's minds to be turned movie- and especially for Elizabeth and her family/friends. I also believe there's a lot about that case that isn't going to be out in the open for a long time yet.

NOBODY joins any branch of the military to die! Do you not realize that it is because of the men & women of the military that you enjoy the freedom you have?? Do you realize that freedom is NOT FREE!! You enjoy freedom at the cost of many people's lives! ANY military member who serves their country earns the right to be a hero - dead or alive! Military member are not paid to die - they are paid (and not very well!) to preserve our freedom by defending the consitution! Jessica has been through a LOT! She deserves to enjoy her freedom in any manner she chooses! She has fought and earned the right to do so! (If you think it is easy to haul around chemical warfare gear, M16 weapon, and wearing bullet proof vests in 110+ degree weather - or, any weather for that matter is easy - you are WRONG) What have you done to help others? Have you even volunteered in you local community to help out with the American Red Cross, Special Olympics, Salvation Army, etc...??? anything?? Do you realize that members of the military support local communities by volunteering many hours of off-duty time to help others? I wish to take nothing away from Elizabeth Smart - she has endured much pain and suffering at the hands of her captors. However, "heros" come in all shapes and sizes and perhaps you need to research how others live in fear in other countries to understand how much you take for granted in your own!! It is because of the men and women in uniform that you enjoy the freedom you obviously take for granted! (YES, I AM ACTIVE DUTY AIR FORCE AND I PROUDLY DEFEND MY COUNTRY!! I HAVE BEEN SEPARATED FROM MY LITTLE GIRL FROM THE TIME SHE WAS AN INFANT AND THROUGHOUT HER LIFE - YES, IT IS MY CHOICE, HOWEVER - SOMEBODY HAS GOT TO DO IT!!!! )

Gotta disagree with that - am I the only one that remembers the three POW from Kosovo? Christopher Stone, Steven Gonzales, and Andrew Ramirez were all prisoners and were finally released months later. I remember it well cuz Chris Stone is from my area, and he had all the parades and everything else.

easier said than done - if you'd gone through what they'd put her through, you'd probably find it pretty hard to believe you were safe too.

I watched the first 30 minutes of Elizabeth Smart. In 30 minutes it was a very powerful story.

I heard a lot and much more worse about Oprah. Behind the gentle and sweet facide is a money-grabbing, attention-seeking, power-driven, desperate for ratings, woman who has changed from being a very humble and sweet, just your ordinary typical talk show hostess to being a rude, crude, don't give a dang about anybody or anyone but myself, who has nearly a $1 billion dollar empire, five or six homes in the US, has several media empires, has her film, tv, & broadway companies, has five restaurants, & three or four vacation homes. She has changed just like Rosie O' Donnell(formerly the "Queen of Nice turned "Queen of Mean") & Martha Stewart(sweet on the outside but rude, cruel, and condescending on the inside to her staff, crew, and anybody that crosses paths with her!!)
