Can you imagine all the crap Lucy had to put up w/ esp. that day and age! No wonder she was a tough cookie. You have to be or you will get walked all over.

I just wish other people would understand that! LOL.

Both of you said that very well, and i wholeheartedly agree. Can you imagine how hard it was for those men back in the fifties and sixties to be told what to do by a mere woman? Who the heck did she think she was, and i also agree about the fact that if she hadn't been, she never would have gotten where she did, same for Davis and Hepburn and all the other pioneers of that era!

it must have been very hard for their ego's... but you gotta do what you got to do to get anywhere. Joan Crawford was pretty tough too from what I hear!! She scares me. LOL.

Very true, I agree. On the "Desilu" Special, Milton Berle said that people considered Lucy a pain in the you-know-where, and they considered him that too. But, like you said, Milton Berle also said that if she WASN'T that way, she would never have been able to be as successful and get as far as she did. Also, like Wanda Clark has said, what's wrong with being a perfectionist? Bravo for Lucy!

Like Tony Randall and Joan Rivers said, she knew everything about every facett of the business so it saved time in the long run for her to appear tough, she got things done faster. If people feared her, they hurried up and got the job done and did it well to not incur further wratch from her. Remember that one story of Desi arguing with the guy whose job was to remind them of where they were when the camera stopped? Lucy said to Desi, hey, you gave him that job, so either fire him or do what he says!

Hahahahahaha, I love that line. Another great one is in "Deepsea Fishing", when Ricky dives overboard and then gets back on the boat, Ethel asks, "Are ya wet?"

I agree w/ all of your statements on the whole Desilu thing.
Lucy may not have been "loved" by all of her coworkers and employees but she sure was respected. She didn't hire people to make friends, she hired them to get a job done.

Are ya wet! Very funny line by the way.

Yeah, we forget the pressures they were under, to deliver a new hit show every single week, to stay on top, like Phyllis Diller said when Lucy died, if the public only knew how much sweat and tears went into making something look effortless when we all see it on TV!

Phillys Diller was so right.
It is because of Lucy and Desi's extra effort that I Love Lucy is still a favorite of so many.
I have to tell you something that is pretty funny. My son was flipping through the channels the other night and nothing was on.
So he turned to me and said mom, there's nothing on besides reruns can I watch one of your ILL DVDs?
Now if I Love Lucy isn't a rerun I don't know what is.
Over 50 years later and still going strong.
