You kids don't know country at all.

If these two... "artists" (I'm using the word as loosely as possible) were marketing themselves as Pop, there would be no problem. But for these two schlockmasters to call themselves country is... well, it's spitting on the memory of Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Roy Acuff, Lefty Frizzell, Patsy Cline, and anyone who ever wrote and performed REAL Country Music.

This crap Faith Hill and Shania Twain come out with is on the same level as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. It disgusts me that they have the audacity to call it country.

Actually, I do know country. I don't consider Faith and Shania to be really country anymore. Faith's "Cry" album wasn't country at all. Shania does have some country left in her albums. Their type of pop is NOTHING like Britney's.

well, did it ever dawn on you one of the reasons Faith and Shania appeal to people who are not really into country is because :::gasp::: they aren't 100% country? To dislike country but to like Shania is kinda similar to disliking rock but liking Good Charlotte (who really isn't rock and is a joke to rock fans) or to dislike rap but liking Will Smith (who is considered a joke to rap fans).

Shania kind of reminds me of someone like Linda Ronstatt who has country in her, but is also equal parts pop-rock. Part of why Come On Over sold so many copies (not saying it's good or bad, just saying why) is because people who won't touch country actually loved Shania because she was poppy enough for them.

Yeah.

There's no accounting for taste. No one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the consumer.

even if Shania is about the same amount of country as Donny Osmond is rock n roll, there was some good stuff on The Woman In Me and Come On Over. Maybe it leaned more to Linda than Loretta, but there was some decent stuff on those cd's. I did not like Up! at all though.

Is Shania in the same league as Patsy, Loretta, Reba, Dolly (I'm talking 1967-1976 and 1989-onward Dolly, not her pop phase) as a country icon? Absolutely not. But she isn't bad either.
