Computers are so expensive! I need a new one. Expensive! I hate money!!!!

I mean, really, why do they make you spend upwards of 1000 dollars on a piece of worthless junk that will only have to be replaced with a newer model of junk in little more than a year!?!

Well, not only am I seeing little pixies, Ive this error thing pop up on me THREE times this week (twice today ) and it said to save everything because it would shutdown on me- and then a countdown would start. My Dad said I did something to it. How dare I be accused of doing something to it, even if I did. WHY IS THIS THING POPPING UP?!
I'm not sure if you have it fixed now, but I'll post this from the *BREAKSDOWN* thread you made about your comp... This will tell you what you need to do to get rid of the msblaster.exe worm you have (that's what is causing your comp to crash).

Quote:
Dear Charter Customer:
As you may have heard on the news, many Internet users are experiencing problems with their computers shutting down abruptly. This is not a problem with Charter Pipeline service. It is the result of a computer vulnerability and is being experienced by computer users around the world. It is due to a computer worm that scans computers checking to see if port 135 is open. If so, the worm takes advantage of the computer and shuts it down.

If your computer has not been infected, you should go to one of the web sites shown below to update your anti-virus software or install a patch to prevent infection.

Here is a Microsoft bulletin regarding this vulnerability:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/se...s/ms03-026.asp

Here is an update from Symantec:

http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/security/Content/8205.html

Here is an update from McAfee:

http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/defau...virus_k=100547

If your computer becomes infected and gets shut down, you will need to follow these steps (you may want to print them for future reference):

Unplug modem.
Restart computer.
Go to Start / Search / For Files and Folders.
Confirm that Look in is set for C: drive.
Search for files and folders named: "MSBLAST.exe"
When computer finds the msblast file(s), right click on the file names and delete all copies of the file.
Shut down the machine.
Plug the modem back in.
Restart the machine.
Go directly to one of the web sites above and install the patch and/or update.
Please do not reply to this email. It is for informational purposes only.
Sincerely,

Charter Communications
Good luck! Oh, before you start to search for msblaster.exe, be sure you Ctrl + Alt + Delete first, go to the Processes tab (2nd one from left), look for "MSBLASTER.EXE" in the list, then shut it down. Just click "yes" when it asks you if you're sure you want to shut it down. Then, go search for it and BE VERY SURE YOU EMPTY YOUR RECYCLE BIN BEFORE YOU SHUT DOWN. I can't stress how important that is.

I hear ya. I need a new one and am buying a laptop (maybe) with my graduation money I got back in May and my 18th b-day money that I know I'm going to get. It'll be a huge jump from what I currently have - 467MHz, 184MB RAM, 10GB HD. It runs pretty fast, tho, so I'm not complaining. But, I REALLY need a new comp so I can save all my stuff on it.

I ran out of memory. RAN OUT.

Now the comp won't do anything. And it gave me a warning in German.

And I can't afford another one!!!

I don't like XP. I used to think it went slow at times because I was running out of memory...but I still actually have a lot of memory. I'm pretty sure I know why things take awhile to load. It's because on XP there are 30498239489238492843928439324 things running at the same time, but the only ones I can see are the ones at the bottom of the screen. And if I try to end one of the processes it gives me this warning and any warnings scare me so I just let it stay...Windows 2000 (ME) was never like this...

Yea, I usually have 30 processes going at once, at least...

Note: Windows 2000 and Windows ME Are 2 different operating systems...

I hate it when it locks up for no reason!

Im sittin' there browsing a site and it just freezes.....Sometimes I can press ctrl-alt-del and reboot it but sometimes I have to hold power button and wait till it goes off, then press it again......

I guess all of us have lock up issues........ (Regardless of the OS)

I never had a lockup since upgraded to new computer with Window 11 OS. If you are still running Win98 Second Edition, it will not have adequate RAM or speed and performance to run some of todays Apps, and that is why it is locking up on you. It is like trying to carry a one Ton load on a 1/2 Ton Truck. It is not going to happen
