Wow...a lot of great choices out there...

Since it's truly impossible to pick the 5 best and most classic shows of all time, I'll throw a few others into the mix... I don't think these have been mentioned yet...

Get Smart
The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show
Hogan's Heroes
The Odd Couple
Green Acres
Beverly Hillbilies

ooops, that's six...

If I had to pick my top 5 favorites, they would probably be:

I Love Lucy (which had no bad episodes)

Seinfeld (which had a few sub-par episodes, but the best episodes were so great, they more than made up for it)

The Dick Van Dyke Show (again, never made a bad episode)

Green Acres (comedy was far, far ahead of it's time)

The Honeymooners (just the classic 39...which were indeed, all classics)

Close behind would be Leave It To Beaver

Happy Days went on far too long, IMHO

All in the Family was great for 2-3 years, but then went downhill quickly...the whole premise of the show was lost when Mike and Gloria moved next door... (in fact, the premise was lost when Mike got a job in the first place)

I'm appreciating MASH more now (my wife loves that show) than I did when it was on...I got tired of it during it's original run...the show started when I was in Jr. High, and ended after I was out of college! WOW It's not on where we are, but we're buying the DVDs...

The Cosby Show, got sick of that after about 3 seasons...went on way too long...

I love the Brady Bunch, I can still watch MOST of their episodes (the eps I can't watch any more are the vacations to Grand Canyon and Hawaii, the pilot episode, and Great Grandma Hutchins meets Great Grandpa Brady, along with a couple of others, like the Davey Jones ep)...but I love Marcia and Jan

Never liked Laverne and Shirley, although I thought Cindy Williams was very cute

Always liked My Three Sons, particularly when Katie was added to the cast

Cheers was great!

I like I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and the Munsters...I like Andy Griffith, but not 15 times a day (are you listening, TV Land?)

As I said earlier, it's tough to narrow it down to 5 shows, or even 10...or 20...

The question was five for fifty years of sitcoms. Here's seven for seventy years:

I Love Lucy
The Beverly Hillbillies
All in the Family
Laverne &:Shirley
The Cosby Show
Seinfeld
The Big Bang Theory

These are the only seven sitcoms that finished #1 in the annual Nielsen ratings two or more times
