Dokken

This band was from Los Angeles and started in 1982 by Don Dokken, George Lynch, Mick Brown, and Juan Croucier. In 1988 internal disputes between Lynch and Don caused the band to break up. Then in 1994 the band got back together and settled their disputes.

Exodus
Album titles were: 1985 Bonded by Blood, 1987 Pleasures of the Flesh, 1989 Fabulous Disaster, 1990 Impact is Imminent, and 1992 Force of Habit.

This is one of the earliest thrash metal bands. Kirk Hammett was part of the very first line-up although he left before any albums were recorded. Exodus made some good albums over the years but failed to match the commercial bands. They are still around and in 1997 recorded a live album. The current line-up is Paul Baloff, Rick Hunolt, Gary Holt, Jack Gibson, and Tom Hunting.

Faith No More

In 1981 Billy Gould, Mike Bordin, Wade Worthington, and Mike Morris form a band called Sharp Young Men, Which they changed to Faith No Man, then in 1982 Wade leaves the band and Roddy Bettum joins. Then Mike Morris gets kicked out and they change the name to Faith No More. In 1983 Chuck Mosely joins and in 1984 Jim Martin joins and the band signs with an independant label. In 1988 Mosely is fired for his attitude and drug problems and then sues the band. The band hires Mike Patton and in 1990 they were nominated for a grammy but lost. They become popular in the UK and hit the US top 10, and The Real Thing went double platinum. In 1993 Jim Martin is fired and Dean Menta ia hired. Then in 1996 Menta is fired and Jon Hudson joins.

Frehley's Comet

Ace Frehley played in many small bands before joining Kiss in 1973. In 1978 each member of Kiss did a solo album and Frehley's was the best and sold the most copies. In 1982 Frehley was in an accident and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent. Some years later Frehley formed his own band called Frehley's Comet.

This is a heavy metal band from Virginia. They perform acts onstage while singing, each member wearing a different costume and up to 18 or more members at once participating, each with their own role. The members are also in a band called X-Cops. The current members are Dave Brockie, Mike Derks, Peter Lee, Casey Orr, Danyell Stampe, Chuck Varga, and Brad Roberts.

Jane's Addiction

Farrell started out in a band called Psi Com but it broke up due to religious beliefs. Farrell then went on to form Jane's Addiction, named after a drug addicted prostitute who supported the band during their early years. The band was an instant success. The lyrics talked about the dangers of the world like money, television, and especially the government. The albums were banned for a short time due to the graphic covers. Despite this the band hit the charts and Ritual De Lo Habitual went gold. Despite their success the band was falling apart. They would fist fight on stage and they were living up to their name, due to the fact that drugs were of high importance to the members. Eventually they broke up and Steve and Perry formed Porno For Pyros. That band failed and they reunited. They went on tour and sold out almost everywhere, some places within a matter of minutes! Eventually they broke up again, and have side projects going on. The line-up was Eric Avery, Steve Perkins, David Navarro, and Perry Farrell

King Diamond

This is a heavy metal band from Denmark. After the breakup of Mercyful Fate the frontman King Diamond started his own band. The music was similar to MF although the satanic influences were toned down and the lyrics were written as horror stories instead. Mercyful Fate has reformed and King Diamond is actually working with both bands now. The current line-up is King Diamond, Andy LaRocque, Herb Simonsen, Chris Estes, and John Herbert.

Krokus

This band formed in Switzerland in 1974. After four years they went from playing a sound like Genesis to more of a heavy sound like AC/DC. The songs were basic and had repeated choruses. The band had many line-up changes over the years, the origional was Chris Von Rohr, Fernando Von Arb, Jurg Naegeli, Tommy Kiefer, and Freddy Steady.

Living Colour

This was a band from the US that started in 1984 with Vernon Reid, Muzz Skillings, William Calhoun, and Corey Glover. Vivid hit #6 in the US and the band was known as the nation's most articulate black rock band. In 1995 the band broke up and Reid released a solo album.

Lizzy Borden

This band formed in 1983 in Los Angeles and took their name from the axe murderess. They used alot of horror imagery in their songs and onstage acts. In 1987 they disbanded and Borden went on to make a solo album called Master of Disguise. They were a good 80's metal band that released six albums before breaking up.

Megadeth
In 1982 Dave Mustaine started a band called "Fallen Angels". This band didn't work out and in 1983 Dave met Ellefson, and they got together with Kerry King (from Slayer) and a drummer named Lee Rash. This line-up was short lived and Kerry soon went strictly with Slayer and in 1984 Lee also quit. Then Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland joined. This line-up signed with Combat Records and in 1985 "Killing is my business...and business is good" was released. The next album was "Peace sells...but who's buying?" Before the release of this album Megadeth signed with Capitol Records which helped the band sell more copies and become more popular. After this album Chris was out of the band and Gar quit. So the next line-up was Behler and Jeff Young. They went on to make "So Far so Good...so What?" in 1988. Before the next album Dave kicked both Jeff and Behler out the band. The next line-up was Nick Menza, Marty Friedman and Ellefson. In 1990 they released "Rust In Peace" which many say is Megadeth's Best accomplishment. In 1992 the band were back in the studio and released "Countdown to Extinction". Then still going strong in 1995 they released "Youthanasia". Then the latest album "Cryptic Writings" was released with all the members still in tact.

Metallica
In 1981 Lars Ulrich met James Hetfield and together with Ron McGovney and Dave Mustaine, Metallica was formed. In 1983 Cliff Burton joined the band and Dave was kicked out, and replaced with Kirk Hammett. This line-up released the band's first album, "Kill em' all". In 1984 Metallica released their second album "Ride the Lightening". Despite the fact that radio stations and mtv did not promote their songs, somehow they managed to get many loyal fans and this album actually went Gold. In 1986 the third album, "Master of Puppets" is released and sells over 1 million copies in the U.S. alone! This album was known for it's "Thrash Metal" sound. During this same year Metallica toured Europe and tragically Cliff Burton, the bassist, was killed as the tour bus skidded off an icy road. Despite this tragedy the band continued and a new bassist named Jason Newsted joined. In 1988, the next album "...and Justice for All" was released and also sold many copies. In 1991 the band released the "Black Album" and the song Enter Sandman became an international hit. In 1996 the band then released "Load", which was followed up by the most recent album, "Reload".

Ozzy Osbourne

John Michael Osborne was born Dec. 3rd 1948 in England, and today is known as the godfather of Heavy Metal. The name "Ozzy" was given to him by some of his English school friends. In 1962 Ozzy joined a band called the "Black Panthers", then he proceeded thru a series of other small bands before joining "Earth" in 1968. This band consisted of Ozzy, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler. The band found out that there was another band with the same name as "Earth", so they had to change it. They chose "Black Sabbath" after a Boris Karloff movie (1935). Black Sabbath went on to produce 8 albums with Ozzy. During all these years Ozzy rarely showed up for practice and was basically stoned all the time. Drugs were taking over Ozzy's life and causing conflicts with the other members. The band decided to fire Ozzy and in his place, Ronnie James Dio joined. After this Ozzy's friend Sharon suggested he start up his own band, and so with Randy Rhoads, Bob Daisley, and Lee Kerslak, the band "Ozzy Osbourne" was formed. In 1982 the band was on their way to a show in Florida and the bus stopped for some repairs. The bus driver had a plane where they had stopped and invited some of them for a ride. The plane landed and then the driver took Randy and Ozzy's seamstress Rachel Youngblood for a ride. The driver was on coke and he drove the plane to the ground purposely trying to hit his ex-wife who was standing outside the bus. The plane crashed and exploded killing both Randy and Rachel. Ozzy and Sharon eventually married in 1982 and Brad Gillis joined the band but only shortly. The next member to join was Jake E. Lee. In 1983 "Bark at the Moon" was released and the band goes thru some member changes. Ozzy and Sharon also have their first child, Aimee Rachel. In 1984 Ozzy is admitted to the Betty Ford clinic for alcohol and drugs and Sharon gives birth to their second child, Kelly, and a year later they have a son named Jack. In 1986 "The Ultimate Sin" is released and Ozzy is sued by the parents of a boy who committed suicide, claiming that he was listening to "Suicide Solution" which they believed had subliminal messages that encouraged suicide. The Supreme court ruled that Ozzy was protected by the first amendment and that no lawsuits could be filed based on these claims. In 1987 "Randy Rhoads Tribute" is released, and "No rest for the Wicked" in 1988. During 1991 "No More Tears" was released and Ozzy wins a grammy award. In 1992 Ozzy announces the retirement tour saying that this would be his last tour. In the same year Black Sabbath is honored with a star at the rock walk in Hollywood. 1994 Ozzy takes home a grammy for "Best Metal Performance". In 1995 after a short retirement Ozzy announces that he's back and "Ozzmosis" is released. In 1996 Ozzy starts up "Ozzfest" and there are some more band changes. In 1997 "Ozzman Cometh" is released, and he teams up with Marilyn Manson on the Ozzfest tour and the N.J. Giants stadium cancels because of Manson. Ozzy takes them to court and wins. That same year Ozzy also reunites for 2 concerts with the origional members of Black Sabbath.

Queensryche

This is a progressive metal band from the USA that made it pretty big, especially with the release of "Operation Mindcrime". The bands lineup has gone unchanged since they started in 1982, until recently in 97 when DeGarmo left the band. The last album lineup was: Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, and Scott Rockenfield.

Quiet Riot

This band formed in 1975 with Kevin DuBrow, Randy Rhoads, Drew Forsyth, and Kelly Garni. This line-up released 2 albums that are now collector's items. In 1979 Rhoads left to join Ozzy Osbourne and Garni left being replaced with Rudy Sarzo. In 1983 they released "Metal Health" which became the first metal album in history to hit #1 on the US charts. This album included the popular song "Cum on Feel the Noize". The band went on to release "Condition Critical" and "Quiet Riot III" before briefly breaking up and regrouping with members DuBrow, Sarzo, Carlos Cavazo, and Frankie Banali. Each album drastically dropped down the charts and in 1988 they produced a self titled album with new singer, Paul Shortino. After this the band disbanded and in 1993 DuBrow formed a new Quiet Riot for a tour and album.
