Not a big fan of Eminem. I heard one song that I recalled one time that the song "The Real Slim Shady" had a reference from a game show that I remember called "To Tell the Truth".

Yeah it is kind of bad that he can dish out insults but not take them but the majority of people are like that in this world.

But, I'm not talking about that I'm talking about his rapping talent. If you don't think he is good than your ****ing moron because he has a lot of talent. It doesn't matter what you think of him as a person. Because I wasn't talking about him as a person.

I'm a moron because I don't see talent in "blah blah blah BEAT UP ALL THE ***S blah blah" "blah blah MY EX WIFE IS A WHORE AND WANNA PUNCH HER blah blah" "blah blah MOBY MADE A COMMENT THAT HE'S OFFENDED BY MY HOMOPHOBIC LYRICS, SO **** HIM AND I'LL KICK HIS ***GY TECHNO ASS BUT IF SOMEONE ATTACKS ME FOR IT I'LL GET ALL VICIOUS blah blah"?

considering I don't even like rap music (and when I do, it's reserved for the likes of Outkast and Busta Rhymes), why SHOULD I like Eminem? I am gay, so why should I support and respect someone who has set the gay rights movement back 20 years by teaching kids it's okay to use the word "***"? Even bypassing that, I hate the way he bashes other artists, when 9 out of 10 times, the artists he bashes I actually prefer to Eminem.

I agree with you.
Not only am I gay, I am also a woman which makes me pretty much number 1 on Mr Mathers "Things I Hate" list. Why should I listen to an "artist" whose lyrics suggest, with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer, that he rather wishes that people like myself were dead?!
It sickens me that children are not only listening to this sh#te but worshipping and aspiring to be like Eminem and his cronies! What sickens me more is that he can write lines like:

"My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge
That'll stab you in the head
whether you're a f@g or lez
Or a homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-ves
Pants or dress - hate f@gs? The answer's "yes""

and noone has any problem but when it's rumoured that he made one derogatory comment about black people when he was a teenager the media tear him apart and force him to publicly apologise! Where's my f##king apology?!
Eminem is not talented. He's an ignorant thug who just happened to be in the right place at the right time when the record deals were being handed out!

exactly. I agree with you on all points. I am sorry, I fail to see the "talent" just because Eminem comes out and says things that shouldn't be said. He owes females and gays an apology just like he owed one to the African-American community.

I am not a huge Moby fan, but I HATE Eminem for the way he destroyed Moby's career over one song. Moby merely attacked Eminem for his homophobic and misogynistic lyrics. Weird because Moby is someone who is a humanist and really wants to make the world a better place while Eminem is nothing more than an overgrown 5th grade bully.

I love how when Justin Timberlake was a boyband member, Eminem rode him on and on... but then he went solo, shaved his head and adopted a "tougher" more butch image... and suddenly the same guy who was bashing him and calling him a ***** was now acting respectful to him. Why, was he afraid maybe now Justin could take him in a fight? I loved it when teen pop was big, he was "I wanna help bring REAL music back", now I agreed with his statements, but if I have to choose the worst of the teen pop or the majority (even tho I do like Outkast and Busta) of the hip hop crap, I would rather go for the teen pop.

I am sorry, I will never understand this so-called talent. Has Eminem written any lyrics that aren't either "____ sucks" or "my life sucks and my mom and wife are filthy whores". Sorry, the man hasn't done anything to get respect from me, SO WHY SHOULD I RESPECT HIM?

First off he doesn't have to apologize for anything. Thats how he feels, and nobody should have to apologize for how they feel. Whether how he feels is right or wrong. Also, the comment he made about blacks was a mistake of his. Everybody at that age says something they wish they hadn't because they said it out of anger. It doesn't mean he feels that way. He had a black girlfriend and she broke up with him so he was mad. He shouldn't of said, and he knows he shouldn't.

The thing with the kids listening to it. Thats their parents faults. They should be more responsible in making sure they don't. Cashiers should make sure no one under 17 buys the record.

He is talented. There is not a lot of people who can rap the way he does, or put together rhymes together the way he does. It may seem easy but its not. Its kind like how I feel about ballet dancers I don't think they have any talent because I hate ballet, I think its stupid. But just because I don't like it doesn't mean they have no talent. They do. So does Eminem whether you like what he does, or what he says.

Rapping is his way of expressing himself. When he was younger he got beat up all the time even one time getting sent into a coma, and on top of that he had a crappy ass mom, and family. So, rapping the one thing he can do let out all his anger that he has held inside and of course people have a problem with it. Nonbody else likes when they get ridiculed for expressing themselves, so why should he? Because he says things you don't agree with? So what! Get over it. Like he has said many times don't take what says in his songs as what he means they are usually a joke.

Why should you respect him? For the same reason someone would respect Michael Jordan. They do stuff not everyone can do.

You people are not open minded enough to see that he is talented whether you agree or not with what he says, or does.

You are correct - Eminem should not have said what he did about black women. He also should not say the things he says about gay people and women in general. You cannot use the defense "nobody should have to apologise for how they feel". Think of it on a larger scale - when Hitler sent all those Jews off to die in the concentration camps was it ok because "that was just how he felt"? Everyone has an opinion, yes, but that does not overrule a little concept we human's have called right and wrong!
So he made the comments about his black ex-girlfriend out of anger? Maybe he should think before he speaks in future. Again, his anger or his age at the time is no excuse for racism.

I agree with you on this point. There should be stronger guidelines in place to stop children getting access to unsuitable material. If I were a parent I wouldn't necessarily prevent my child from listening to Eminem if thats what he/she wanted to do. However, I would make it very, very clear to my child that his views are not to be taken seriously.

I can see the point you are trying to make. I'm not saying that Eminem is completely talentless, but his constant use of profanity and violent imagery detracts somewhat from any real lyrical skill he may have. Someone who uses the word "f#ck" so frequently can hardly claim to be the most eloquent individual, can they?

Again, none of this is an acceptable excuse. I was tormented all through-out school aswell, my parents aren't exactly the best in the world either but you know what? - I got over it! And I certainly didn't take it out, verbally or otherwise, on people who didn't deserve it! So his mother neglected him - does that explain why he felt he had to try and ruin Moby or Fred Durst's careers? So his wife cheated on him - does that explain why he writes such vile hateful material about gay people (or "f#cking f#ggots" as he prefers to call them)? I've been hurt by women too but that doesn't give me the right to generalise them all as cheating whores!

I'll respect his "talent" the day he respects me as a human being and not one of his disgusting labels!

No, I AM open-minded. It's people like Eminem, who can't see past their own hang-ups and prejudice, that are not.

Let me ask you one thing - how would you feel if you were part of one of the minority groups that Eminem frequently takes shots at? Would he still be such a hero for you if he wrote a song about how he'd love to stick a knife in your head?

isn't that a double standard? he makes fun of white women all the time, but dare he make fun of a black woman and all hell breaks loose?

I am willing to bet the moment Eminem attacks whatever you are, you're going to boycott him and hate his guts. So don't tell women and gays they should respect a man who'd rather have us dead. If it's a valid excuse for gay people to hate George W. Bush, why can't it be okay for us to hate Eminem? they're basically the same just in different mediums.

Apparently his FANS do take what he says seriously. I popped over his AOL board back in late 2002 (right after the VMA's) just to see how his fans were going to react over his meltdown on the MTV VMA's, and so many of his fans said stuff like "Moby is a ***" and throwing the word "***" around like it was no big deal. We all know they got it from the fact that Eminem made them feel it was okay to use it. You won't see fans of a more openminded embracive artists spewing that hateful word (we hate seeing straight people use the word as much as black people hate seeing white people use the word that begins with N)

oh hell, I don't even listen to rap and I can tell Jay-Z is more talented than Eminem is. 99 Problems alone is better than the entire Eminem catalog.

I have TRIED to give Eminem a chance. When "Without Me" came out, I even decided "you know, I'll put past differences aside and try to like this" but that ended as soon as he started on his rant about Moby... someone who actually appreciates music as an artform... does Eminem? hell no.

if anyone is not being openminded. It is Eminem. He spreads hate for women, gays and celebrities he doesn't deem fit in his little hip hop world (I hate rappers who think their music is better than everything else... especially when you see some rappers who can actually embrace other styles of music).

Once again, when someone comes out and attacks everything YOU stand for, are you going to sit around and go "man, he wants me dead... BUT HE'S SO TALENTED"??? hell no you won't.

Don't compare Eminem to Hitler. Eminem talks, and Hitler did more than talk he did stuff. Your right he should the difference between right and wrong but he isn't the only who says these things yet he is the only one who gets ridiculed for it. Well, I guess it makes sense because of his popularity. For what he said about a black women and that age wasn't an excuse. Everybody does it so why should be the one looked down at for it when everyone is guilty of it.

The only reason he says these things about gays, and killing people is because it gets people to talk, it gets people mad, and it works. If people wouldn't get mad, or wouldn't talk about it he wouldn't say it. He lives off of controversy, and the more people react the more he'll do it.

He is far from my hero. I like listening to his music because I enjoy it, and I think its great, and funny. Whether or not I agree with what he says. Don't take it as a hit at you just let it go because the only way anyone is going to make him stop is not react to it.

BuffySlayer79, you are taking what he says too seriously. If you don't like it then don't listen to it. You are doing exactly what he wants and that is getting mad about it. He is all talk. Ever heard of thing called sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me? That be a bit childish but its true. So...he says something about your sexuality..so what. If you're going to let one guy offend you this much then your going to be offended the rest of your life. Because if you haven't figured it out yet if your gay you will be made fun of whether its wrong or not. Its like racism, blacks will be made fun of forever because people are stubborn, and cruel. But, you have to deal with it or else your letting them win. I'm not racist, and I don't dislike homosexuals for the simple reason they are just like me but have different interests. Thats all I have to say about that. You are doing exactly what he tries to do.

He sure can give it, but he can't take it. And you ever notice he always preyed on the "weak", people like Moby who wouldn't be able to take him in a fight. You'd never see Eminem bashing someone who could beat the living crap out of him. Why is that? Oh yea, Eminem's an insecure jerk who picks on others he considers weaker than him to boost his ego.
I so agree. He couldnt even handle a damn puppet. Hell, MTV took out that whole scene! Conan re-aired it though and had Triumph on, it was funny.

I gotta agree with Mossop and BuffySlayer79 on everything. Now that you guys point it out, it is true that he makes fun of those who cant really defend themselves. He also seems to dish out on the ones who are competition to him. Back in 2000, pop was the thing- NSYNC were the biggest things out there and Im sure Eminem felt threatened since fans of Eminem and NSYNC stem from the same age group - teens. Same with Britney and Christina. Im not a big fan of Moby, but I do remember him being pretty popular too. He feels threatened by them, and if hes 'stronger' than them.. hes going to chew them up and spit them out. Evidently, Eminem has to be doing something right though because he is selling albums. He gets tons of media attention for the things he says and Im sure he likes it- good or bad, whatever it is, it keeps him in the limelight. Though I wonder if say, Justin Timberlake, Usher, or someone else like them started saying crap like Eminem, if people would react in the same way. "Oh, I respect him for speaking his mind", etc. I doubt it.

I know, he should've handled it with more dignity and class than he did.

Eminem could've been a sport and played along with Triumph instead of showing that he is not a fair game. I honestly couldn't believe some of his fans stood by him over that. If my favorite artist just made a huge ass of him or herself on national television, I wouldn't defend the person the way a lot of Eminem fans were over it. Eminem took his Moby hate way too far. All Moby did was say he wasn't a fan of the misogynistic and homophobic lyrics Eminem represents... and Eminem took that as a "wait, he's defending the ***s and the bitches? maybe I should slander him then".

What Moby said was hardly justification for what Eminem did to him. Moby was just trying to be an upright moral citizen standing up and saying he doesn't like what Eminem is standing for (Madonna actually lost quite a few gay fans over defending Eminem's Freedom Of Speech... so I think Moby was doing it to make sure he doesn't alienate any fanbases (since he got his big break in techno music... a genre largely associated with gays and lesbians).
