I guess I must have missed that whole discussion but just went down and read through it. Interesting. I have alot of respect for Lisa. She has every right to believe what she wants.
That said, I followed her trip through her journal for the last year and found it to be a mostly fun read. However, she said some things I found to be offensive. I won't say the things that offended me, I don't want to start anything up again. It's her right to say whatever she pleases on her own website, so I didn't let it bother me too much. But when you put your thoughts and opinions out in the public domain, like she has, then you must expect that people are going to discuss and criticize what you say. Simple fact. I'm sure she is used to it and expects it. There were some things written in that thread that were ridiculous, the cussing and elusions to violence should be removed by the moderator, but some posts were just expressing their feelings and opinions about religion and religious people in general. Expressing your opinion is a good thing. Lisa does come off as an almost fundamentalist type Christian. To me, fundamentalism can be a very dangerous thing. I won't expand on that, since I know people would be angry by what I say. Not saying that Lisa is a fundamentalist, I don't know her. Anyway, I have no problem with very religious people, unless they try to impose their morals, values and beliefs on me. To each his own. That is the most unique and amazing thing about our great country. Just wanted to add my comments about this. KC PS - "Religion is the enemy of God" "Religion is what happens when God has left the room" These are some of my favorite quotes, by a certain famous person I like and respect alot, a friend of the Pope. Can ya guess who?

Okay, why am I bringing up a post again that was already closed?
Simple, every once in a while, some charming individual(s) will start getting into a little verbal slam-fest on Lisa or some other character on the FOL. I felt that the criticisms were cruel and no doubt would go on in some form or other. There are a lot of people like myself who have a very good idea of who Lisa Whelchel is, and can assure you that she is NOT a person who "pushes" religion or anything on anyone. I know there were a lot of sick things said in response to how she raises her kids, all because they took something she said in one of her books and made her out to be some abusive parent. I know that Lisa is now using young people's newfound interest in her as a way to bring the message of Christ into their lives, and that some people on the boards just wanted to slam her as being a "holier-than-thou" type who was merely a spiritual tyrant. It seems in this post 9/11 world, everyone has this token appreciation for religion, but Christianity seems to be dissed as intolerant and oppressive. People who know Lisa regard her as a very kind person who wants to share the love of God in a way that doesn't offend or scare off people, she wants to make Jesus a REAL person in our lives. It infuriates me that people who have no idea of what she's all about want to paint her as a brainless "fundamentalist" and twist her words around to make her the opposite of what she really is. I think it's more out of spite and a prior contempt for Christianity that makes people do this. I think that thread was closed because people were getting very vulgar and abusive in their language, especially toward her. |

Maybe I shouldn't post a reply on this thread, but I think I will anyway. I know Blair's My Cherry Pie had good intention by posting this, but I somehow get the feeling that this is going to turn out into an ugly fight too.
I think that instead of posting this we should've just let the Lisa post just go down to the bottom of the pile. jmo |

Im not yelling at any one person, because frankly, this whole thread is pissing me off! Im sorry I even posted in this thing a few days ago!!! If you have a comment about Lisa or whoever, state it if someone else doesnt like it, tell them to get over it!!!!

I was trying to let this whole thing pass me by but, I can no longer ingore it. As a person rasied in a home were spankings were rare but, there was no doubt that if you needed one you got it and i mean with a belt on the backside, my parent's did not belive in abuse by no means . I was also rasied in a christan home with good morals and things and saved young. I agree with Lisa that right and wrong must be taught and i agree that sometimes spankings are the only way they can be taught. I also know that as a young woman that in the future when I have children all of you are going to need the phone number and address of my local DSS and mine becouse when all is said and done I will be spanking my child.
