Speaking of Sophia, could you imagine being in a hospital for a checkup with a woman like Sophia sitting right next to you? She’d probably be laughing and making fun of every patient as they get called into the room. She also probably wouldn’t hesitate to try and meddle into your personal life either. And not to mention, she would probably top off her disgusting and inappropriate behavior by trying to hold a rather racist and ignorant conversation with you about Chinese people and their eyes or Black people and their love for fried chicken or how the “colored folks are causing a downfall to our country”. Wouldn’t it be fun?

I do agree that Sophia was mean to Blanche's daughter. In syndication, this is cut out but is in the DVD episode where Blanche gets Dorothy a job at the museum. Sophia shows up at the museum and asks Dorothy if he was gay and gets laughs. Ironically, the actor who played the boss was gay. However he was not playing a gay character. Asking if he was gay was just a punchline.
How about when Sophia sold Dorothy's ticket to see the pope. But the cruelest Sophia was IMHO was when Phil died and how evil Sophia was to his wife. Even a mean Sophia, this seemed extreme and out of character. Like all the characters, I prefer the earlier seasons. The last few seasons, they turned into caricatures of their former selves. |

Is everyone forgetting that Sophia had a stroke and had no filters?

The lowest Sophia moment for me was when she was trying to help Rose sleep by knocking her unconscious with a pot. That was just too much and a bit hard to watch.

Lame excuse. Sophia was always mean, long before the stroke. She was mean to Phil's wife from the very beginning, when her dowry check bounced so she disowned Phil and his entire immediate family. Nice try at rationalizing but the truth is that Sophia was always a mean and wicked hag years before her stroke. More examples: when Dorothy was a child, she lied about her paper bird turning into a real, live pet and then used the paper bird to fix the oven pilot light. She lied to Dorothy about her prom date showing up and how she chased him away. For decades she let Dorothy believe that the boy just stood her up. She was always mean. There's much more like favoring Gloria, etc. I could go on and on.
