Everything is temporary so know that.

On foods do a search on Inflammatory foods and maybe you can eliminate some that could be causing more harm for you. Also listen to your body when you've eaten something that could be causing more pain. Sugars are notorious, nothing good about them for our health, but are addicting ... I've been down that road.
Agree 100% with what you said about sugar. It is often the cause of many conditions. They say cancer cells feast on sugar. It also is supposed to aggravate arthritis. Also sugar includes all fast-acting carbohydrates besides”sweets” as they break down to fast-acting glucose in the body (i.e. white bread, bagels, potatoes etc.). And many studies have shown it’s addictive qualities.

Indeed as a diabetic I’ve often got nasty readings if I ate too much of any of these.

These days I try to do low-carb (under 80g a day) and trying to adjust to Metformin—it’s notorious for gastric distress. But I find when I eat a good amount of green vegetables at a meal it doesn’t affect me too much.

I've followed many with Type II and many do take Berberine and truly clean up their diets. A friend I knew was forever trying new pharma diabetes drugs. And dealing with their side effects...last I heard she was taking Metformin. Grape Seed Extract is also said to reduce diabetes.

Thanks. I’m keeping an open mind on this. But Metformin is supposed to be very effective—maybe I’ll cut back to two pills a day. But I find that when I eat “salad” vegetables and low-glycemic fruit with my meals it doesn’t bother me much. I may have eased into a full dosage too quickly. When I took one or two pills a day I had no or little upset.

I’ll read up on your suggestions. Thanks again!

I don't have the diabetes challenge and don't want it. If it was ever in my family I don't know. But for me and I believe it's done wonders, just eliminating bringing bread into my house, and it's been over 10 yrs. I started by buying gluten free and it was too dense, heavy so I said to myself, just don't buy it anymore.

My little "sandwich rolls" are little slices of turkey and beef balony, mayo, slice of onion and I roll it up and that my sandwich. Some days a chuck of avocado and even slices of garlic. My last A1C was 5.5. I like to keep it there but I know some veggies I eat are carbs. And now and then a gluten free thin crust pizza.

A lot of it is genetic; it runs in my family although most had relatively mild cases. And I don’t blame you for not wanting it because you really have to watch what you eat if you don’t want the disease to quickly progress.

My last A1C was 6.2 even with exercise and being pretty decent with my diet. But because I was starting to get high morning readings, and just wanted to get it down to normal, I decided to start Metformin. But boy, sometimes it does a number on my stomach.

An A1C of 5.5 is very good for someone in their 80s. I SO miss bread and potatoes, and seldom have them. Mostly I use the Trader Joe’s low carb wraps for something sandwich-y.

O.N. I don't know how advanced the arthritis is, but it does advance with age. One thing I believe is missing in our bodies is adequate Boron, the U.S. soils are pretty deficient. Isreal is said to have high Boron in soils and very little arthritis in that country.

I've been taking Born but finding that I'm not taking enough. So am upping my daily dose now to 9mg two times a day and will go from there.

Here is a good site with a lot of good info on Boron and even dosing.

Nothing Boring About Boron

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4712861/

Dosing is talked about in the above and that 20mg for adults is safe from their research and for whatever it's worth nothing is known for sure ... other factors have to be addressed also with arthritis.

Foods higher in Boron

https://www.verywellhealth.com/best-...-foods-5092054

Note: They mention wine and beer, my dad drank beer all his life and had hardly any arthritic issues and he lived to 95. Not recommending beer but sayin.

The person who told me about needing more than a measly 3mg is taking about 35mg daily and no arthritic issues hardly anymore.

This is good info as the world deals with arthritis in one form or another eventually. Info you will not hear from mainstream MD's...

Omega XL is also really good. It's drug free, from the green Lipped mussel (fatty acids) from the pristine waters of New Zealand. It also has some other great stuff. I used to have horrible joint pain in my hips but since taking Omega XL, the pain is down to 99% pain free. Only thing is that Omega XL takes about 2 months to fully work. I've been taking it since last year and I feel fantastic.

I used green lipid mussels over the years, used so much it's not funny. I'm working to hopefully getting to the root of what is missing in our foods from our soils.

Here is a comment I found very interesting.

Vets are often wiser than regular doctors ) Boron in large doses is a poison, even though small amounts of it are present in the body. The idea of it being poisonous has created a silly scare about the use of boron. However, in small doses such as 300-600mgs daily it is not only safe, it is essential in preventing and treating arthritic pain and stiffness -- particularly in areas of the world where there is very little natural boron in the soil. Do some Google style research on the relationship between Boron and health around the world--it is a fascinating story.

And I'm at 18 mg daily now. If I only knew about this missing mineral years ago, who knows what I'd be like today.

Interesting list of foods higher in Boron, thanks for the link. I eat many of those -- I like to dehydrate grapes and make my own juicy raisins.

I'll bet your homemade raisins are great, too much work for me, but I probably eat a small handful of organic raisins daily. Raisins are high in sugar and I am on top of consuming sugars. In the Grape Seed Ex, the sugar content is low I believe as they are made from the "seeds" which are bitter.
