Jo, she talked her into staying and Mrs. G always made her feel at home, but then again she was like a mother to all the girls.

She was the closest to Tootie. They would even have private chats and conversations that the rest of the girls don't know about. Mrs Garrett is also the youngest in her family and that's something that they have in common amongst other things....

Once again i would say MRS G was closest to BLAIR: it's like she could relate to her and saw that there was more to her than meet the eyes (she even says in her goodbye episode, that on the outside BLAIR seemed 'shallow'? but that on the inside she had a heart of gold and loves to let it shine). On the other hand, BLAIR always seemed to hang on every word MRS G said, and the times she acted like a spoiled brat you could see how repentant she was at the end of an episode. In a way i'm sure she saw MRS G more of a mother figure than MONICA WARNER ever was, and i'm sure that is the reason the two of them had a special bond.

But Mrs. Garrett was a senior citizen. I think they thought of her as a surrogate grandmother.

I wouldn't call her a sr citizen since she was under 65 on the show.

Not uncommon for boarding school students to see others who are not their parents as parental figures since they really don't see their parents as often as they see school administrators, teachers, etc.

Exactly. It's not uncaring parents, it's just how boarding school life is.

Are you guys crazy or what?! MRS G was hardly old enough to be their grandmother (nowadays people get pregnant when they're in their forties lol!): she was like a mature mother to them since she was 40 years older than them,

and already had 2 grown up sons, so that doesn't make her a granny to my eyes!

Well, there have been women who were grandmothers in their 30s, so if the girls were teens and Mrs. G was in her 50s, it was possible.

It's extremely common for women in their 50s to be grandmothers. Their children can be in their 30s, and their grandchildren are teenagers.

Like i say, it was common back in time: today most women have their children in their 30 s and 40 s, so grandmother's can be in their 60 s when the first baby arrives

(my grandmother was 50 years old when i was born)
