Years ago, someone must have come up with the gimmick for people to watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. I imagine it was done to entice and attract the audience that has no interest in football or the Super Bowl, and get them to watch anyway, just to drive the ratings up. As far as I know, the Super Bowl is the only televised event during the year where the commercials draw as much attention, if not more attention, than the event itself.
It's challenging because if you have to go to the bathroom you may miss a commercial. lol

Wonder what people did 30 years ago when it was no option to see them online the next day

Oh No

I'm boycotting the Super Bowl until Cleveland either is in it...or hosting it!

And since neither will happen in the next 50 Super Bowls...I watched the Bill Murray Classic, "Groundhog Day"!...

Far More Entertaining than the Stupid Bowl!

It pretty much started in 1984 with the Macintosh computer ad. You can Google/YouTube it if you don't remember. It ran ONCE nationally, during the Super Bowl, and that was it. Never shown again.

no interest in NFL, the commercials, or the halftime show - we watched the kitten bowl and the puppy bowl.

...and then I watched the Capitals-Flyers game.

LOL, don't get me started on the halftime garbage and those talentless hooligans that took over the field. And that Lady Gaga was chosen to sing the national anthem before the game. Yuck, she is absolutely horrible.

During halftime, I changed the channel to something else for 20 minutes, then went back to the game when the 3rd quarter started.

Surprised. I watched some of the pre game, the whole game, not halftime, the commercials, the post game. I also thought Lady Gaga did a great job. The game, as a whole, was lousy but I never intended on changing the channel.
