I don't check in that often, but I have to post on this.
Cindy wasn't wacko, she was a somewhat 1-dimensional character who didn't fit into the show and just happened to be played by the right actress. Was she a good actress? Hell no, but even a bad performer can find the right role. (Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso on That '70s Show comes to mind.) The clutziness was played up too much, which is why the character didn't work. When they tried to add dimension to the character, it looks to me like the writers didn't know what to do. After some of the comments I've seen on the boards, I'm glad to see prople coming to Terri/Priscilla's defense. PB was the saving grace after the ratings plummet in S5 and she kept the show alive until the writers tanked it in S8. Too bad she doesn't talk about it; she should be proud of this. Terri had the intelligence to face her own problems, while Chrissy kept needing prodding. Terri still had the occasional blonde moment, but nowhere on the same level as Chrissy, or Cindi for that matter. (I also think she was one of the best looking women of all time, but that's beside the point.) Chrissy wasn't really that good of a character, and SS was learning to act on set but didn't really get there until Step By Step. But she had, and still has, an incredible charisma that just makes you like her. That's why the show worked. And seriously, Cindi as a veterinarian should scare every pet on Earth and their owners. She may have been the inspiration for Elmira from...was it Looney Tunes Adventures? |
