I voted for The Facts Of Life. In my opinion, it is overrated (especially on the boards and stuff).

Um....Friends has been a major hit since it debuted in 1994, and as far as I can remember has always had major publicity. I may be wrong, but I always remember this show being talked about.

Yeah, that's true, but what I meant to say is, people are saying that Friends is only no. 1 becuase of publicity, and Im just trying to say, that the CURRENT publicity around Friends is becuase of it's ratings (since it's IS the number one show), and not the other way around...Plus, Im not really old enough to remember the publicity when it FIRST came on. lol

Default Cosby Show

Your poll Did not include the Cosby Show which I feel is overrated. Cosby is a comic with little talent whose show is a hit for reasons beyond me

I voted for Three's Company. I know it was supposed to be sort of 'slapstick', with Jack falling over everything, but I just cannot stand John Ritter. I can't even watch movies that he's in, that's how awful I think he is. I hope this opinion doesn't offend anyone.

Default Of course I chose the Brady Bunch

I have always thought that the Brady Bunch was highly overrated. Although I watched it as a child, I can not even bring myself to watch it today. I think the Brady Bunch along with their overrated counterparts the Partridge Family, were two of the most overrated shows in television history.

I personally don't understand the animosity towards Friends.

Friends may be in its swan's song, and is not as good as it once was, but there is a reason it has been a hit since the very beginning and remained strong. The actors may not be Oscar quality or anything, but they have good chemistry, which is important in a sitcom, especially one about, well, friends. The show is smartly written and has a diverse range of characters so that pretty much anyone who watches can find a favorite or someone they can identify with. I don't think Friends has ever resorted to crap like "Very Special Episodes". The only episode I can think of like that is maybe Monica and Chandler's wedding. It is fast-paced and witty. Sure it may be formulaic or predictable at times, but find me a sitcom that isn't.

I have never understood why people like mindless shows like Gilligan's Island. I suppose it's the tiniest bit charming, but that show is vapid.

Also, calling Friends "bandwagon garbage" is curious. It seems to impy that Freinds jumped on the bandwagon, when in reality Friends made the bandwagon. Friends is and will likely remain the sitcom yard stick against which all other 90s sitcoms will be measured (with notable exceptions being Seinfeld, and hmmm....maybe Frasier? Well that's open to debate but I guarantee you Friends will be at or near the top of that list). I see alot of 90s and current shows trying (unsuccessfully) to emulate its success.

I can understand if it's just not your thing. To each their own. I just think that the enormous amount backlash Friends gets is unfair. It's like as if hating Friends is some popular trend that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of.

Cool

I think the thing with Friends is, you like it or you don't. Maybe some people do love to hate it and criticize it because it's so popular/ it's a rip-off of Seinfeld/etc., but all the people I know who don't like the show (and I know a lot of people who don't like it) don't watch it because they don't find it funny to begin with. Personally, Friends could be #100 in the ratings, the actors could get $1.00 an episode, and the critics could all be bashing it and I still wouldn't watch it.
