CBS ANNOUNCES 2011-2012 PREMIERE DATES

CBS, America's most watched network, will officially open the 2011-2012 season on Monday, Sept. 19, highlighted by the special series debut of its new comedy, 2 BROKE GIRLS, which premieres at a special time behind the season premiere of TWO AND A HALF MEN.

CBS will once again launch the majority of its new and returning programming during premiere week (Sept. 19-25). SURVIVOR premieres one week earlier (Wednesday, Sept. 14) for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons, and the comedies MIKE & MOLLY (Monday, Sept. 26) and HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN (Thursday, Sept. 29) will debut one week later.

The new drama, PERSON OF INTEREST, opens Thursday, Sept. 22 preceded by back-to-back episodes of THE BIG BANG THEORY. UNFORGETTABLE premieres Tuesday, Sept. 20 and A GIFTED MAN on Friday, Sept. 23.

"Our playbook is pretty consistent: wherever and whenever possible we use established successful series to introduce new shows," said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, CBS Primetime. "We've also asked a couple of our strongest series to work overtime during premiere week in order to support the new series and bolster our performance."

"Rules of Engagement" back on Thursdays (effective October 20th), and "How to Be A Gentleman" gets shoved on Saturdays behind "Two and a Half Men" reruns beginning October 15th. Its episode order has been cut too... from 13 to 9 episodes.

CBS has announced it is moving the original episodes of Rules of Engagement to the Thursday, 8:30pm following The Big Bang Theory beginning October 20. How To Be A Gentleman will be exiled to Saturday nights beginning next week (October 15). Next week a repeat of The Big Bang Theory will air on 8:30p on Thursday. The move of 'Rules' to Saturday is not a big surprise, and neither really is 'Gentleman's' banishment.

How To Be A Gentleman is effectively canceled and will surely get no more than its initial 13 episode order, assuming that's not cut (update: Vulture reports insiders are saying the order will be cut back to 9 episodes).

CBS is pulling How to Be a Gentleman from its posh time slot behind The Big Bang Theory, but it's not totally giving up on the first-year sitcom (yet). The network plans to shift Gentleman to 8 p.m. Saturdays starting October 15. That had been the time slot where the Eye network had planned to air the new season of veteran comedy Rules of Engagement, starring David Spade. Now, however, Rules will get to follow Big Bang on Thursdays, beginning October 20. While Gentleman will get to stay on the air a bit longer, CBS is being realistic about its odds of survival: Industry insiders tell Vulture the show's original thirteen-episode order is being trimmed to just nine. Meanwhile, ABC hasn't announced any decision on the fate of Charlie's Angels, though the show's three weeks of declining ratings make it an obvious cancellation candidate.

My grandson has asked if CBS is going to get a single-camera situation comedy, just like NBC, FOX, and ABC, all of CBS's comedies are multi-camera, why can't one of them be single-camera?

The bigger question is why can't the other networks do multi-camera sitcoms.

ABC has Last Man Standing, which has done well. They also have one coming in midseason titled Work It (a modern day Bosom Buddies).

NBC has Whitney (doing bad, but they picked-up a full season) and a few others for mid-season. Fox has I Hate My Teenage Daughter coming. So they are trying...
