I just stumbled into this forum when I was surfing the Internet looking for info about Bill Macy. I read he had turned 92 the other day, and I am glad to here that he is sharp as a tack as the previous poster reports.
The way the article is written seems to distort the context by trying to create a controversy where none exists. No disrespect whatsoever meant to Bill Macy, but in 1979, a reporter from the St. Petersburg Times who is assigned a story to cover him is unlikely to be a star reporter assigned a plum feature. So I suspect she added a significant amount of intrigue (that has lasted this many years, sadly) for the purpose of sensationalism. Like a previous post mentions, the show ended a year earlier, and many people become involved in new parts of their lives. For instance, Conrad Bain was knee deep in Diff'rent Strokes by this time. I was close to people at one job in particular, and it was easily a year before we reunited after parting ways amicably. And when you see them again, you just pick up from there. If they spent that much time together for that length of time, they probably wanted a break from one another. What else can you say after that length of time. The space is good. Anyways, no where does Bill Macy say there is animosity or even suggest it. It is the sensationalist reporter who even gives it a ridiculous headline to draw readers. Bill Macy was just observing the dynamic of being so close with his castmates for so long, and the sudden switch. If she was any good as a reporter, she would have inquired if there was animosity, and dig deeper into this statement. The story is so vague it is absurd. Did she just interview Bill Macy and this is all she could report? This is National Enquirer level reporting, unfortunately. The other accounts listed here seem to indicate communication between Bill and other castmates years on. If there was a whole conversation and context in this article that would be one thing, but there isn't. |
