Charles, I think I should mention that I am admitting to being a "Fanilow". Have been since I was a kid. Even when I got into hard rock & heavy metal, I still loved Barry's music. Yes, it is sappy, but I don't care. I guess I got a little put off of the comments about him, so I apologize. Like I said, I don't like arguing, either, especially with you.

Although I'm not much of a fan of the "cover" CDs he's put out in the past 10 years.

BTW, didn't know I Write the Songs was a cover?!!

That site doesn't seem to list songs that have never been covered, only songs that have indeed been covered, so I don't think it's really meant to be a source of an artist's discography more than it is a source of what they've covered and who has covered them.

The Captain and Tennille didn't originally record I Write the Songs. Them, Barry, and David Cassidy all recorded versions of it at around the same time in 1975 before any version of it was released on album or as a single. Cassidy's version was released first in '75 and charted in the UK, and Barry's was released a few months later.

I think it's kinda unfair to say that people who do mainly covers are getting rich off of someone else. Trust me, the people who wrote those songs are getting rich no matter who sings them. I'm sure they welcome it when established artists choose to sing their songs because it means they're probably going to make lots and lots of money.

I've been doing this for over 30 years so I'm not exactly a novice when it comes to music.
