I volunteer at a state prison, so I've met various criminals, including murderers. One of them, while he is very nice and respectful to me, I suspect has a narcissistic personality disorder. He has regailed me with tales about being a top sniper in Vietnam, etc, probably none of which are true. Pretty creepy! I doubt he'll ever get out.

Most of the murderers that I've met were just kids when they got involved in gang shootings. One of them was 15 when he was convicted, has served about 10 years, and can barely speak to the female volunteers because his social development basically stopped at the age of 15. It's very sad to think that this is how are society has decided to deal with those kids and that they will more than likely be back out on the streets expected to function in society.

Outside of my volunteer job, I know a couple men who were close family friends who are now serving life sentences on multiple counts of child molestation. Thank goodness my parents were vigilant and never left us alone with any of these people. However, I used to babysit for one of their sons on occasion. When I found out he had been arrested I simply couldn't believe it. He was your typical nice church-going guy and quite charismatic. The story is so cliche, but you never really get it until it turns out to be someone you know. I know that many people here probably have similar stories.

I worked at a bowling alley and I saw a couple of interesting characters.

A couple of years ago, I was in a parking lot when I saw a guy who looked like Mick Foley get out of his car and start cursing. He was slamming the car shut and yelling at the woman inside. You could hear the rage in his voice and the anger and I had a feeling sticking around there wouldn't be good. I drove into that parking lot a week later and was greeted by a similiar scene. I would see that guy walking around that same area a lot over the next few weeks, looking comical and drunk. Weird.

well i probably have a few and I'll try to think of them. I did grow up in some strange areas. one year I spent with my grandmother in houston and she lived in some terrible apartments. one night there was a man in the courtyard behind her apartment.....sleeping on the ground holding a gun. the cops came and took him away. that scared the heck out of me as that was during the whole UM craze back in 89/90.

then you have all of those interstate segments you see. One day my family was traveling along IH 40 in arkansas. and my dad was driving very fast around 85 or so. a trucker started driving very violently and was yelling at us for no apparant reason. my dad sped up even faster and the trucker tried to run us off the road and flipped us off. anyway we passed him and never saw him again. later we stopped a rest area and I asked my dad several times if he thought the trucker was going to find us there and told him we shouldn't stay for long. he said i was a chicken and made fun of me. but in reality I wouldn't of even stopped until I needed gas.
