TNT started "24 Hours of 'A Christmas Story'" back in 1997, and then it switched to TBS in 2004.

Over the past decade, it's become one of my family's Christmas traditions to watch it, at various times, throughout the day.

My father hates the movie, but the rest of us love it and look forward to the marathon every year. We all have favorite scenes, recite certain pieces of dialogue, and just have a great time watching it.

TBS isn't the only network broadcasting something that day -- there are plenty of other viewing options, and plenty of other Christmas movies to be found -- so I'm not sure why anyone's complaining about the marathon. But, to each their own.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

To think TBS is airing it like crazy is no shocker. They have done this before. I wonder what connection TBS (or its executives) have with this movie? What is so damn special abt it? I can think of at least five BETTER movies they can air rather than air a marathon of that movie. Why not a cluster of Christmas-related programming? Thank you Solomon for mentioning this for your rant!

Flavor of Love reruns on VH1???? Why am I not surprised. That station loves to milk their shows to death. Next year it will be I love New York season one marathon.
no you are not the only person who hates this movie i cant stand it ether

I don't hate the movie...I actually like it but I do think it is way overplayed. Their are many other Christmas movies that are just better. They should air a marathon of some of the greatest Christmas movies of all time and not stick to just one.

I think you had to be a child in the 80's, seeing A Christmas Story for the first time when you're 5 or 6 years old to truly realize the magic of the movie. 24 hrs a day of it is overkill but it's still a cute movie to watch once every few years, I certainly prefer it to It's A Wonderful Life for sure. If you were a teen or adult when you first saw it, it doesn't quite have the impact it does on a child.

I guess I'm one of the few people here who loves "A Christmas Story". It's one of my all time favorite Christmas movies, along with Christmas Vacation and It's a Wonderful Life. I can understand why people hate it though. Most of my family hates it. Not so much the movie itself, but that they air it nonstop for 24 hours each Christmas. I basically grew up with this movie so to me it's a classic and I try to watch it at least once or twice every Christmas, but I do agree a 24 hour marathon of the same movie is just too much.

exactly, it's like what I said, if you grew up with the movie (I was 5 or 6 first time I saw it on HBO back when it was a fairly recent movie and first came to cable), it's an all-time classic. If you saw the movie 15-20 years after the fact, it likely won't have the same meaning to you as it did those of us who watched the movie as kids and remember "shoot your eye out" and all the other classic moments. Brady Bunch is also in that vein, if you watched it as a kid, you loved it and it holds up, but if you avoided it when you were younger and try to watch it through adult eyes, it's embarassingly bad.

I love A Christmas Story. I wasn't old enough to see it since it as it was first released in 1983, but I've watched it for as long as I can remember and I have enjoyed it every year. I'll definitely agree it's a classic. That gets as much airplay in my house as It's A Wonderful Life, Home Alone, and Home Alone 2.

Yeah, I don't think I could stand to watch a minute of The Brady Bunch now if I hadn't seen it when I was a kid.

I have to disagree when you said, Solomon, that nobody has there TV on Christmas Day. TV's on while we open presents.
As far as A Christmas Story, it's my favorite movie but I agree it's overplayed. I think they can show it as much as they want. Just mix it up a little. Example: A Christmas Story; another program; another program; A Christmas Story; another program.

I love Christmas Vacation and I defintely wouldn't want a channel to fill their entire schedule with it-lol

Possibly on this thread, but on the movie board, members have been praising that movie for years and years. That's why I rented it. People like what they like. I just thought it was boring. You're not in the minority at all though.

Not with me, and A Christmas Story. It has nothing to do about seeing it as a child, or not. There are Christmas classics I've seen as a child that I didn't like then, and don't like today. The movie simply bores me. A low-budget snoozefest, but that's just me, lol. Most people love it.
