I figure this tv season is screwed, hopefully things will get settled within a couple of months.

not long enough methinks. what i don't understand is that if these people are so pissed with the salaries that they are getting, then why don't they damn well leave their jobs and seek another profession elsewhere? i like to be a scriptwriter and frankly even if the pay is ****, the thing for me is that i am still being paid for what i do. rather than not get paid at all. on the other hand, being a scriptwriter means writing lots and lots of good material. i don't really care about the financial aspect.

with this writer's strike as much as it is frustrating, the truth is tv has gone downhill ever since 2000 or so. all the best shows were from the 60s to the 90s and so this situation as much as it is annnoying doesn't bother me that much. i hardly watch a lot of tv nowadays so frankly, i couldn't really care one bit

I don't think it's so much the writers as it's their union that ordered the strike, although I think the writers voted to strike. I do see their side of things, why shouldn't they get their fair share if it wasn't for them the actors wouldn't have jobs.

You know I've been thinking about this. The writers thought by striking at the beginning of November that it would cause the studios to cave into them because it was in the middle of the season...the beginning of November sweeps. But really the networks aren't really even going to feel the effects of the strike until late in the season. If they would have struck like they did last time in March, the networks wouldn't have had any shows to put on the air but reality. It wouldn't have effected this season but it would have next season. I just think they miscalculated.

oh well, in that case then, the union should sort out this mess and with the writers come to a compromise which will satisfy both parties. the longer this situation drags on with no solution in sight, the more damage this will inflict on the US tv industry

and you know in the end a compromise will be reached. Both the WGA and the Studios aren't going to get everything they want. They both have to save face.

I think the studios/networks have made a calcuation. They think they can survive on unscripted stuff(let's face it, it's a LOT cheaper to make). They could be right. That's why this strike will not be ending anytime soon IMO.

It's not that they're pissed with the salaries it's that they aren't even making a salary from things they should be making money off of; They're own work!

I don't understand how you can just come out and say thousands of people should just leave their jobs, their careers, if they don't like they're salaries. That's still not going to fix the problem. And well, they put their pens down, and look at this mess.

And you may not watch too much "new" TV, but do you watch movies at the cinema? They're affected by this as well.

yeah but the people in film land are not reacting in the same way as the writers of tv shows are doing right now. the entertainment industry is one of the very few where people get to become creative and if they aren't being rewarded properly for the effort they put in, then people wil start to bitch and get a little agitated

I'm glad I don't go to the movie theaters. I only go a couple times every few years. The last time I went was to see the last Star Wars movie. I have a huge movie collection so that part of the strike doesn't effect me at all.

I want it to end now, no matter what! Both sides are acting like children over this whole thing, and their interrupting this season, and hurting many great new shows.

I'd like it to end soon. Even after it ends won't it take a few weeks to get the shows back up and running?

Once new eps are done...so am I. I'll turn to DVDs, reruns, or music. I'm not letting the networks think they can show reality and get away with it.
