Okay, here we go, the 8th section of OJABA...
OJABA Rules XIII. Game Rules Note: At the start of all district, regional, and state tournaments, every coach must present a roster of eligible players to the tournament director. It will not be necessary to present a roster to game officials before each match, but coaches shouldkeep a copy of it with them during the tournament in case any questions should arise. Also, for each of her players present, each soach must have with her a medical release form, signed by the player's parent of guardian. 1. Points are awarded for correct answers to questions asked by the moderator. Points are not subtracted for incorrect answers. 2. There are two types of questions in every match: a. Toss-up questions-- twenty questions worth ten points each per quarter in quarters one and three b. Sixty-second questions-- ten related questions worth five points each answered in sixty seconds or less 3. Coaches and substitutes must sit at the back of the room or at least two rows behind the contestants. 4. A team consists of no more than four players, but can not have less that three players. The team is not required to use the same players for every match. Team members (up to four players) may be substituted at the end of the first half of play and/or prior to a sudden death situation. The player designated as captain can not change unless that player is taken out of play. 5. If there is a procedural problem, a coach may ask for a time out to bring the matter to the attention of the game officials. However, the timeout cannot be called while a question is active during the toss-up questions or sixty-second questions. The game officials will use the association rules to make a decision. All other protests must be made at the end of the first quarter, the half, the end of the third quarter, and the fourth quarter. Protests must pertain to the quarter just completed, not to a previous quarter. After the match is completed, both coaches will be required to sign the official score sheet. 6. The first response given is the one that counts. 7. If the player's response to a question gives more information than is needed to answer the question, the additional information must be correct. This situation is most likely to occur when a player has interrupted the reading of a question in order to answer quickly. The cheif judge will be the final arbiter concerning the acceptability of this answer. 8. Any team that is more than ten minutes late for any OJABA tournament game shall forfeit that game. No protests will be allowed, not even at state level. The cheif judge and the winning coach shall sign the official score sheet, which shall state: "Team ______ wins this game by forfeit." The cheif judge shall then announce the winner, and declare the game to be over. Also, any team that begins play in the wrong room or skips a round and "plays ahead" will be disqualified. 9. Team coaches are responsible at all times for the behavior of their players. 10. During a sixty-second period, the members of the non-participating team may not use pencils or talk while the other team is in play. 11. Coaches may not signal or consult with their team players at any time while the game is in play. Any coach who violates this rule will be removed from the game room.
