I might be wrong, but I believe "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" was based off of a book, or book series. I have one of the books, I believe it came before the show.

that's right; I think that WAS a book. I know that it was also a movie, I think in the 50s sometime.

actually; MASH, GIDGET, THE MANY LOVES OF DOBIE GILLIS and some others; were based on movies that were based on books.

ILL was based on My Favorite Husband. Irene Kampen wrote the book "Life Without George." It says here.

Roswell was based on the book series "Roswell High."

And the upcoming CW show "Gossip Girl" is based on a book too.

Road To Avonlea was based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables books.

I didn't know "Sex in the City" was based on a book. Interesting. Actually the only ones I knew were based on books were Hardy Boys, Gossip Girl and Little House on the Prairie.

Dude, you're making that up. The books came AFTER the series. If you know anything about this series, you know that Gene pitched it to the network as "Wagon Train in space." There were no books, and he created the series from nothing but his own brain.

On the other hand:

Spenser: For Hire and by extrapolation A Man Called Hawk are based on the Spenser mystery novels by Robert Parker.
The Ellery Queen Mysteries are based on the book series of the same name.
Dave's World is based on the writings of humorist Dave Barry.
The Dresden Files is based on a supernatural mystery book series.

The Baby-Sitters Club was a popular series of books for young girls in the 1980's and 1990's and gave life to a tv show of the same name that aired the Disney Channel and was released direct to video in the 1990's as well.
