BTW, interesting primary tonight in the Kentucky governor's race. Fletcher the scandal plagued Republican incumbent fought off a challenge from former congresswoman Ann Northrup, who was backed by Mitch McConnell. On the Democratic side, Steve Beshear defeated more conservative Bruce Lunsford, who was sure to cross party lines and back McConnell next year if he became governor. Beshear narrowly avoided a mandatory runoff by getting above the minimum 40% mark. That will be a very competitive race. Likely edge to Beshear right now. Democratic turnout was significantly higher than among the Republicans tonight. The GOP figures to win the other two gov races this year, since Haley Barbour is in a commanding position in Mississippi, and Louisiana's demographics have changed significantly post-Katrina. Bobby Jindal is favored to win that race, especially after the top Democratic hope former senator John Breaux had to stay out of the race amidst debate whether he was eligible to run, after relocating to Maryland when his senate term ended in early '05. |

A Thursday shouldn't have been busy at that time. Wednesday seems to be the least active day in casinos but Thursdays are slow also, especially in the morning. It can be somewhat different in Laughlin which is not a convention city like Las Vegas.
Somehow I forgot to mention the cocktail waitresses in my previous post. They would be much more familiar with a regular player than a change girl. The waitresses take orders all the time and make a mental note of who tips and who doesn't. If Jean Moore played a slot machine or poker machine regularly, the cocktail waitresses who served that area would be the first ones to check with. But I wouldn't place any emphasis on their net worth and Jean's reaction to amounts won or lost on a machine. Gambling is about action, not dollars. That is demonstrated in study after study. People with the itch thrill to be involved. The bottom line is secondary, and it's a distant second. I know many people here who swing wildly in their betting amounts but basically don't care as long as they have betting slips on the games every night. In fact, the best year I ever had was '95-'96. My roommate that year was a guy named John from Michigan, a computer whiz who worked at the Sands. He would literally have $5000 chips laying around the place one week, then be digging under the cushions for quarters the next week. Whatever he had, that's what he would bet so he was always a few bets from being broke. I did phenomenal by following him when he was hot and opposing him when he couldn't pick his ***. The last few months I had to pay all the rent and every bill but I basically didn't care, because he had been worth so much to me during football and basketball season. Plus he had a friend who worked at Carvel and filled our freezer with frozen goodies all year.
