I've been wearing braces since last May. They're uncomfortalbe but I know at the end I will be satisfied with the results.

I despise my stupid braces. I know, I know, people tell me all the time I'll be happy with the results after I get them off, but I've had them before and I only had to get them on again. My canine grew in wrong and they had to pull it into place with a stupid chain--and yes, you can imagine the pain in that. I have such complicated teeth. When you first get your braces put on, it hurts so much for about a week. It also hurts for days after I get them tightened. The orthodontist was predicting I should get this set of braces off this April, but the last time I went in to get them tightened, he told me I'm going to have to keep them on longer. It wouldn't surprise me if I was told I had to get them a third time in the future.

I wore braces for about four years.

For those of you who have never had braces, here's how it feels.

Once a month, hit yourself in the head with a baseball bat.

That's a typical trip to the orthodonsitst.

Nope, I've never had braces. I still would like to get braces, but some situations are preventing me from getting them in my adult life at the moment. Speaking of which, what is the age limit/circumstance of getting braces?

There is no age limit whatsoever. I am sure though if you were 80 years old what would be the point...
I have seen people in their late 30's get them. I once seen a DOCTOR who appeared to be abt 45 years old wearing braces. Cool!

No age limit. This interpreter that worked with me til last year will be 60 next year, and she already had braces when I started working with her two years ago. I think she got them taken off in June of last year. I forgot why she had to get them...her teeth were fine, I think it was to correct her bite.

I had braces from age 10-14 1/2 Then a second time starting at age 21--I'm still wearing them. It'll probably be 7 years total! At least this time they're clear brackets. I have probably the most complicated orthodontic case I'll ever hear of...

ETA: This thread just got bumped so I came back. Seven weeks shy of 9 years total; amazingly had them removed only a few months after bimaxillary advancement when it’s usually 12-18 months more, otherwise it would have been 10+ years. However, it all proved to be a short-lived victory..I am very sorry, early 20s me. You had an idea, but no one listened. Thankfully no braces ever again needed, but 3-4 more jaws surgeries needed (still in the air) for a total of 8-9 jaw surgeries for a rare TMJ pathology nobody recognized. “Hinge-y go bye-bye.” (Since this is a Sitcom board, let’s keep it comical.” )

Ooh, what jaw did you have done and what needed to be done? I'm having surgery later this year too...

evilNpunk, Ireneparalegal, and PZelda, thank you all for answering my question about the braces/age limit thing. That's good to know. I am interested in getting braces sometime in the future.

I had braces from the summer of 7th grade to the summer of 10th grade so I had them for 3 years. They sucked, but it was worth it.
