So glad you posted mikejones1! I have been wanting a friend or relative to post on here so we can get some more info. There is very little online about their case since it happened so long ago. Was Adam ever found? The UM update did mention that Elena remains were. They did seem quite devoted to each other so I can't imagine Adam letting her jump to her death and then take off. I think he jumped that day as well. Is that what the family and friends of his think as well?

Wow, thanks Mikejones1. It's always nice to hear from the real people close to the cases. I've only seen this segment once and it's left me pretty torn.

"What, has a survey been done on the typical restaurant choice before suicide attempts? Let's say the Emerys had chosen Red Lobster or Applebees or some other generic chain. Somehow I doubt these articles would be flooded with the restaurant name. Burger King should sue."

Ha! This gave me a chuckle...lol...Btw as a fallen vegetarian, I also love Burger King.

Post update?

There's a new article about this case in the Providence Journal:

http://www.projo.com/news/content/AD...8-a4d983484b7b

Apparently, Emery's family was granted a death certificate for Adam, though there is no proof he is actually dead. He is still wanted by the FBI. The Bass Family still thinks he is alive.

The article indicated that the leg bone fished out of the Narragansett Bay near the Claiborne Pell Bridge in 1994, which contained fibre similar to the socks they purchased prior to their disappearance was NOT ADAM EMERY'S! Assuming it's not Elena's (which I would think they could rule her out quickly based on height), you would have to accept that someone else perished in the Bay wearing the same socks as they purchased.

I have always found it strange that the only remains retrieved after dragging the waters around the bridge were several assorted bones and a skull, purportedly Elena's. No weights, no clothes, no jewlery, etc., just misc. bones, one of which was proven not to be Adams. If they put on the athletic weights and socks prior to jumping, their bodies would have sunk to the bottom of the Bay very close to the bridge. Weighted down, I would think that the multiple divers and trawlers dredging that area afterward would have found their bodies quite easily and quickly, given the small search area. Another question that has dogged me is why a couple intent on suicide would take the trouble of putting weights on, presumably so their bodies would not be discovered, and then proceed to: (1) jump from one of the most recognizable and heavily travelled landmarks in the state; (2) leave their car idling on the bridge;and (3) mail suicide notes to family members? Isn't the purpose of putting the weights on to hide the remains so people don't know what happened?

Is it possible that they, or sympathetic friends/family members who believed Adam's conviction unjust, arranged for miscl. human remains to be dumped and later found? The leg bone found with threads from the sock similar to one purchased was not Adam's. If not Adam's or Elena's, doesn't that suggest that someone planted it? Finally, with respect to the skull found, it's lower jaw was missing. My understanding is that it was identified through dental records only, not DNA. If I was a dentist and had someone's dental x-rays, could I perform work (e.g., put fillings) on a skull and make it appear that it belonged to that individual? If the lower jaw was missing, wouldn't it make it that much easier to "doctor" the skull by taking it from a recently deceased woman of the same race and simlply "forge" the dental work? It certainly appeared from the articles that the victim's father was thinking along those lines and mentioned that the skull was found shortly before the bond collateral would be forfeited.
I had similar thoughts, Zanzibar Blue. I would, at the very least, think it prudent to do DNA testing on Elena's skull, now that that sort of technology is readily available.

btw, Zanzubar Blue, if you are still around, are you named for the bar of the same name in Philly? I see you are from PA.

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can view the original UM for this case ("Emery's Last Stand" on Season 7, Episode 6...UM #313 I think)? Were episodes in season 7 ever distributed on video?

I know that we are not supposed to post youtube links or other viewing/exchange info, but I would really like to see the original UM story about this fascinating case.

Again, I am sorry if asking about where/how to view UM episodes is not appropriate for this forum, but I'm having a devil of a time finding info about this episode, and figured people on this forum would might be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks!

When it comes to picking your last meal before dying, have it your way. Pick what you want.

I don't understand that with DNA analysis starting to really come around then, why they did not test the DNA to remove any doubt of whose skull that is.

That wife was a real piece of garbage. She sounds like the type of women that need to stay single for life and why so many men now don't want to be married. She sounds unbearable and pure hell to be around. The feeling I get from this couple is that she was a real spoiled brat and she did the dating bait and switch on this Emeryboard. He didn't know what hit him, but being a narcissist himself, he wanted to be treated that way. She likely did everything he wanted in the beginning and as Robin Willams said, for men there is not enough blood for both heads, so he was a clueless dolt always trying to please her. She likely challenged his manhood repeatedly, especially that night. My family is from Eastern Europe and she reminds me of the nasty woman you can get from there. Don't get me wrong. Some can be great, but there is a level trash women that you get from there that are the inspiration of the saying that some people bring joy wheRever they go and some wheNever they go.

They are delusional lunatics if they think Emeryboard did nothing wrong. If he killed the guy who actually hit his car he wouldn't be convicted? Iz Yu KRAZEE? His actions egged on my his wife, Satan's daughter caused the death. If his mother were Hitler's mother, she would say the boy just likes to be in charge. If she were Jeffrey Dahmer's mother, she would say the boy just gets the munchies once in a while. Those two families are lower than garbage.

If that skull was indeed Miss Satan, my gut tells me, both spouses were narcissists with the wife being far worse and the husband being a good little dopey follower and their relationship was sort of more like a domineering mother and stupid son. I feel that he never jumped. I think as they were both about to jump, he chickened out and she went down yelling "You mother fu------------splash!".

The argument over price in the sporting goods store makes me think two things. Even if you are about to do yourself in, old habits still fight their way to the top. The other thing it makes me think is that it was a ruse, so a witness SAW them buying weights, therefore they obviously killed themselves and wanted to make sure their bodies would sink to the bottom. Weights to a drowning victim is more of the M.O. of a hit than a suicide. None of that stuff was apparently found. Why would you want weights to kill yourself jumping off a bridge? The impact on the water if you land wrong will instantly kill you. It would be like hitting concrete from the same height if you don't cut through the "skin" on top of the water.

The cutting of the credit cards I find odd. Why do you care about your debt if you're killing yourself? Again, that could be habit. Maybe they didn't want someone on the bridge finding them before the police, using the cards and people believing they are still alive? That sounds like a fake suicide. I also wondered why he would leave the driver's license in the car? Would it be to identify the car, so it's believed he committed suicide? The registration would tell who the owner is. There seem to be too many red flags of why do you care when you're killing yourself. Burger King could have been a final choice because it was their favorite food. A meal fit for a king if you will. It wouldn't be my choice. If you want to be treated like royalty, go White Castle since the building already makes you feel like a king. As for debt after you die, if you have no estate, the debt dies with you. If you have an estate, once it is set up, the debts are paid off before and whatever is left goes to the beneficiary of the estate. They were married, but had no kids, so the next of kin would be their parents. If their parents created estates for them, they would have to pay down the debt first, but after 7 years, the debt would be voided with or without an estate and he was not declared legally dead for a while. I wonder if that is why you have to wait 7 years to make someone legally dead. Maybe so there are no debts to pay? I doubt they had that much debt anyway. My thinking is if they were going to commit suicide, they would really live it up one last time before killing themselves. Honestly though, why leave your credit cards and driver's license in the car? Just jump with them in your pockets. That could mean fake suicide or real. If they find the license floating in the water, then maybe they did jump. If you find it in the car, he is letting you know he jumped or trying to get you to believe he jumped.

In conclusion. Until they find his remains and are verified via DNA analysis, I would assume he is alive. I still wonder if the skull is Miss Satan's. I get some weird feeling these two families were connected somehow and got some kind of setup. I can't see someone who is that immature and childish to not admit quilt nor apologize want to kill himself. A sewer rat does what he can to survive. It would not shock me if they did a DNA test on the skull and it turned out to not be Miss Satan. My gut says at least he is still alive.

I realize this comment was posted 18 years ago but this is pretty damn eye rolling. Adam not only chased down the wrong car and stabbed a completely innocent 20-year-old kid, but he showed NO REMORSE long after the high had worn off. And the fact that those feelings didn't change, he didn't apologize to Jason Bass' grieving family even after he found out he attacked the wrong person and he STILL claimed self-defense.....I just don't think this is a good example of someone who "slipped up." This was an ordeal that shined a spotlight on a soulless sociopath who refused to do any self reflection after all the lives he destroyed.

Couldn't agree more. This wasn't just road rage, this was a brutal murder and he could easily have killed other people while driving erratically to chase Jason down, too. His behavior after finding out he killed someone who had never touched his car also speaks volumes.

A "wonderful person" wouldn't have done this sort of thing to begin with.
