Remember that episode when Willona's ex Ray, sexually harassed Thelma, those last 2 mins they cut out were vital to the storyline because it showed Willona and Flo making up, Willona apologizing to Thelma, Thelma saying her sorrys to Willona, and the important part, Willona calling the bakery and cancelling the wedding cake.

I don't care if someone is living paycheck to paycheck, iam btw-lol but if they can't put money aside for entertainment what are they working for? To pay the phone and gas company? You have to treat yourself to something sometimes. Not just work, work, work,

as for me, yes I believe in having $$$ aside for entertainment, going out to eat, etc. I am very blessed and lucky. Alot of people aren't. I know alot of people who don't have DVD players. Just today this lady approached me asking me for a dollar so she could put gas in her car so she could get to a women's shelter. I told her to pull her car up to the pump and I paid the gas station to have her car filled up. She gave me her I.D. and the proof that she was headed to a women's shelter. I declined. I told her she didn't need to pay me back. She cried and cried abt how she was battered and had no $$$. She said she lived check by check and didn't even have money for gas when she fled from her husband.
In this real world, some people can't just put money aside. Their lives depend on every cent they have.

Glad to know you can do that. I wish everyone could. Not everyone is single though. Having kids, bills, car, insurance, rent, mortgage, buying clothes, school supplies, school project supplies, diapers, sports activities (kids), private school tuition (if that's the case); if one has a toddler, new shoes every couple of months, clothes too. I remember when I was divorced and injured my back severely. I could barely survive. I always bought what my girls needed before I bought anything for myself. I had them in private school. It got so bad, I took my younger one out of private and put her in public. I did everything I could to live within my means, and only discovered I had to borrow $$ and also cut out certain luxuries.
I again am glad to know you found a way to live and have $$$ for fun stuff, but alot of people don't have that luxury. Especially families.
Where one lives is also a factor. Here in my county, it is very expensive living. You pay for the lifestyle (beach, community, agriculture, housing, etc.). What one house costs here, is the price of two houses elsewhere. What one pays in rent here, that could be a monthly mortgage somewhere else.

I do agree with Irene on this one Solomon. However I see your point Solomon and there is truth to it. Because I put 10-20 percent to the side for myself, but you must understand that not everyone is in that position all the time. They may not want to spend the money on Good Times tapes when they can copy them off TV Land. Chances are that some don't care. Also, I think that they dont care about the cuts. Every person has their own situation. Both of you have valid points but if they do not wany spend their money on DVD sets or can't that is their option and sometimes it is not. Irene gives good examples.

There are others that don't have the DVD's like myself but I have the Columbia House versions unedited. I will buy the DVD's in due time but if others want to watch it, I think they should have that right. The problem that I do have is the fact that I am expecting a certain line to be said and it is not. I am so used to a pattern because I have watched the eps over and over again that I may say the lines occasionally as they are being said and then notice a quick cut to the next line without being able to hear what I thought I would. That is my problem with syndicacted eps.

I am going to figure out a way to get TV ONE. I love that station! I will get my mother to tape shows for me until I get the network myself.

See that's one of my points. I was over my Ma's and they were showing "Florida the Matchmaker", and I was getting ready to say one of my favorite lines along with Flo when she said, "James how can you say that, I played hard to get and I got got." And guess what, the stupid station cut that line out. I was so hot. Why would they cut out 10 sec., for what? That makes me sick.

Well said Irene, I couldn't have said it any better. I'm very lucky to have the life that I have. But some people are single moms and dads, I just had a baby so I know for sure that diapers and formula isn't cheap at all, diapers alone can put a person in the poor house. Not everyone can set aside a few dollars from their paychecks to buy DVD's, that's a waste of money for some people.

Thanx Brie. Especially now that u have that beautiful baby in your life, u know how expensive things can get. If a mom is in a store, chances are she's gonna buy for her family (food, clothes, detergent, etc) before she buys something like a DVD. I was just reading an article in the paper abt people living check by check, having no medical insurance; or they can see a doctor, but they can't afford the medicine. I am truly blessed and very lucky I am in a good financial position. I wish others could be so blessed.

Your very welcome, And you are so right whenever I go to the store or mall I buy things for my daughter and husband and don't get anything for myself. But I'm getting better, I'm starting to treat myself a little at a time. And you are also right about medical insurance, kids a lone can rack up a big medical bill, with shots and when they get sick. My daughter (the 2 yr. old) fell and sprained her wrist, we took her to the hospital and they gave her a baby aspirin and that damn aspirin cost 12 bucks LOL, I could have went and bought 2 bottles for that much.

I am like that too, always thinking of my family first...then maybe i will buy something for myself. It's really hard with gas prices being high, kids needing medicine. Man, I have a toddler but I remember paying alot for those damn diapers. He grows so fast, I have to buy him shoes every 2 months. Then, comes car registration, smog test, repairs, tires, etc. Add all that while owning 3 vehicles. Making a monthly payment on one of them. but, like I said, we are blessed. Alot of people don't have much. My ex-husband is alone and barely surviving. So, it doesn't have to be a large size family to be having financial problems, single people can too.

I agree with Irene. In this day and age some of us can't put aside money for fun. We have to do things that don't cost alot. I personally could afford a dvd of shows but frankly I wouln't want it. IT's all want you want or can afford.
It is a different world than the 1950's fun is fun. but what you classified as luxuries in the 1950's are neccessities today. How many of you don't drive a car? It is needed today. There is an expense.
