there was a site that had a script that let you put your own text on the sign in that picture, there are millions of versions of that picture out there

I'll riot if either Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden don't happen to show up at this summer's Ozzfest here in Auburn.

Kidding.

Oh really?

I got it on an email a couple of years ago.

So you could "write" anything and it would look as though it was done in marker right on the cardboard? They can actually match the cardboard and everything? Amazing!

The letters are typed, not written.

Hell no I wouldn't riot. I'll be a lil sad if he's found guilty because I'm a fan of his music, but I honestly don't care if he goes to jail.

You're a nut Seinatra! I will not be surprised if he is found not guilty, but I am too busy at work to riot at this time.

What are you talking about - the note on that sign is hand written in black marker - there's no font on earth like that.

the site is no longer active (too much bandwidth apparently...) but it WAS at http://www.in4mador.com/links/1813

SNOPES does have an article on it, and gives the complete story behind the sign here: http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/boudreaux.asp

oh, and there ARE fonts like that one, I have no idea what it is called though because robyn is the artist in our family, not me.

That must be some software then - you'd swear that is hand written.

You're sure that maybe that wasn't the original pic and then its been redone on that website since then? Otherwise, it means they were holding up a blank piece of cardboard - or do you know what the original sign said?

I know I sound anal about this, but I've used a lot of different media software packages before but I've never seen anything this authentic. Usually you can pick out the photoshopped pics pretty easily (like the guy with the "giant" cat - the shadows were off).

here is the original pic (from Snopes):

the caption reads: "Lcpl Boudreaux killed my dad th(en) he knocked up my sister!"

the site that I originally posted had a script that you could enter your own caption, and it would create a pic with that text on the sign, just like in the original pic that was posted.

i know that it wasn't a manually-edited or "photoshopped" image because I went to the site while it was still active and created my own version of the pic - read the Snopes article for the whole story

from Snopes:

Quote:
Several different versions of this picture — each with the sign altered to reflect some other humorous message (e.g., "My country got invaded and all I got was this lousy sign") — were circulated on the Internet, and that phenomenon increased tremendously after the creation of site that allowed visitors to customize the Boudreaux photograph by putting their own words onto the sign. (That site, www.ryano.net/iraq/, is no longer operational, now imparting the message "gone forever. deal with it.") Other versions of the picture displayed more positive messages (e.g., "Lcpl Boudreaux saved my dad th(en) rescued my sister!"):
i think mine just said "EEYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!" (in reference to the "thumbs-up")

Yes, yes there are. There's plenty of handwritten fonts. And plus, look at the letters...the Ss, Ts, Ls, As....all of the letters look the same.

I'll be darned - they are the same!! Boy - I've really got to get out more!

Actually, that supposed "original" they show in snopes looks more real - faded and the handwriting is more of a guy's (the MJ one was pretty neatly done).

Ya learn something new everyday! I'm not going to believe anything I see anymore!
