I think that's when All in the Family went to pot also. When Mike and Gloria moved next door wasn't all that bad to me. But when Stephanie came to live with the Bunker's and Mike and Gloria moved to California, the show fell apart to me, It just wasn't the same anymore.

It just wasnt the same without Nixon in the White House. Too bad Nixon had to resign... just imagine if Nixon was in until Jan.1977... then Agnew with Reagan as VP was elected. There would be some sweet shows up until 1988 or so!

they should have it end the show when Mike and Gloria moved away and before Edith died from a heart attack.

The show was really 2 seperate shows----the first years before Mike and Gloria moved out where hard hiting and biting and told it like it was.... but then what could they do? I mean, Mike had to grow up.... and Archie couldn't keep hating him once he did, could he?

Once Mike and Gloria moved out, I still liked the show.....especially some of the shows that dealt with Archie and Mikes new relationship... like the one where they get drunk together, when Mike is tutoring the hot lady... it was lots of fun.... but, they made a mistake when they stopped having political discussions.... I mean, Nixon was gone, but Ford and Carter both had lots to joke about... and I would have prefered to see Mike become involved in politics or Greenpeace or something and then go that route...

Also YES, Stephanie was a big mistake.... A weak character that added nothing... When the Stivics moved west, I would have prefered to see Archie and Edith have to struggle to find themselves as a Couple, with the kids gone... maybe have them have some serious marital issues... or such....
By, the Time it became Archie Bunkers Place, it was a different show... and I view it not compared to All in the Family, but compared to other 80s sitcoms... compared to Alice and One Day at a Time, it was still pretty good....

There were some good ABP episodes like when Edith died, or Sammy David Jr came back, or when Gloria and Mike came home for the holidays.... BUT the bad thing was that the bar characters (with the exception of Barney) were all horrbile and killed the show...

Too bad that Archie couldnt have gotten into a financial bind and have Mike come back from CA to help him run the bar!!!

Yeah ill agree with that in part, but, i actually liked Stephie..wasnt HER fault the producers decided to soften Archie

There were more good episodes after that but never like the ones from 70-74
