The episode with Will's Father was not absolutely serious. The only serious moments were right before the commercial when Will told Uncle Phil-"You're not my Father" and at the very end when he was crying.

The one with his father is one of my favorite serious episodes. These serious episodes work so well because this show is so well acted. I love the mix of comedy and serious moments. It gives this "down-to-earth-ness" to the show. Fresh Prince will always remain one of my favorite shows ever.

I just can't take the Will smith character seriously on FP. When he cried at the end of the episode I actually LAUGHED!!!!

Not the saddest of episodes, but when Uncle Phil had a heart attack, and Carlton didn't want to see him in the hospital with tubes up his nose...and then Will coaxes him to go...that one gets me.

Wow, I thought Will did an excellent job in that episode.... From the part he tried to seal his anger by thinking positive to the part of "Why don't he want me man"... How can you laugh in such a serious scene? I in fact was in tears.

I also thought he did a good job in the one when he took a bullet for Carlton.

Maybe I just take the show a little bit more seriously..

Because he sounded like he was Laughing when he said-"How come he don't want me man?" Watch it again, I'm confident that he was laughing. Now Will did do a better job in crying in the episode when Carlton took the pills.

One thing we can agree on, Uncle Phil's actor is outstanding. Not just in that episode but in most.

I liked the episode with Will's father. It showed just how much Uncle Phil really cared for Will when alot of the time he acts like he hates Will's guts. Overall Uncle Phil was Will's father in my opinion. Uncle Phil treated him as if one of his own.

Emotional episodes are good. It really makes you get into it, and think about the characters. And maybe even cry...

Even I got bleary-eyed in the episode with Will's father...
i tend to feel that the best episodes on a sitcom is when things aren't wrapped up into happy endings. not every problem in life can be solved in 22 minutes plus commercials. i love the sad episodes of TFPOBA---especially "Papa's got a brand new excuse" and "bullets over bel-air". I work at a TV station and we have an extensive tape library that includes all TFPOBA episodes. I watch these 2 episodes every chance I get!!!
