Huh. That is certainly possible; the lady who wrote that episode, Sally Sussman, apparently only wrote one other episode for FOL, and it was for "Sex Symbol", which features three of the characters from the previous season: Nancy, Sue Ann, and Cindy.

Nah, I don't think any of "our girls" (season 1) would shoplift, though. Cindy, Molly, and Sue Ann would never do such a thing IMO. That seems tailor-made for a newcomer with a troubled past, hence Jo.

The only season 1 possibility I could even fathom would be Nancy, and that's only because of peer pressure of seeing how far she would go to get into "The Group", or to wrongly impress Roger, maybe afraid of losing him to another girl with more $.

I would have guessed Sue Ann shoplifted to one-up Blair’s gift. She smoked dope so wouldn’t stealing be next...? Jk

You raise a good point, SM. Sue Ann would know it was wrong, but after seeing Blair's expensive gift, maybe she would. We know Sue Ann caves to peer pressure ("Dope") and one-upmanship ("Running"). In "Dope", she smokes pot to fit in. In "Running", she rejoins the race in order to stop Cindy from breaking her record.

So, while '80s has a valid point about the Lost Girls normally being squeaky clean, Sue Ann does have a history of questionable, competitive behavior.

Although Mr. Bradley manipulates her into joining the race. And I would think more kids would be more apt to try a drug/smoking rather than steal, but I dunno.

Funny, Sue Ann's not even my favorite Lost Girl, and here I'm the one having the most faith in her!

And on Sitcommania's original comment, about 4 season 1 titles had the "-ing" titles. Since that's less than a third of all season 1 episodes, I think that's a coincidence, since also, like Retro pointed out in saying the following observation in a different way: the writer of that script never even wrote a season 1 script. It doesn't feel like season 1 at all to me; it definitely feels like an original "new probation student Jo" story.

You are right: Sue Ann definitely has a strong moral compass, no doubt.

Yet I think we've all seen moments where Sue Ann doesn't do the right thing: covering for Blair in "Flash Flood" and "The Facts of Love". And what about her lying about her career in "The Little Chill"? She lied most of that episode! Sue Ann has always been very easy to manipulate or push down the wrong path.

Twenty minutes of listening to Blair brag about how amazing her gift was, might convince Sue Ann to do the wrong thing.

To me that feels complex in considering, because that's in the future, and I want to say it wasn't written by a season 1 writer? (I can't recall for sure though)

After the first retooling, they never gave Nancy any major role in Season One.

But, aside from that, what would cause Nancy to shoplift?
