I assume The Jeffersons didn't sell well. I have heard no mention for another season on DVD, but hopefully something is in the works for 2005 (or even Nov or Dec 2004). I have seen the release schedule through Oct. and no Jeffersons in sight.

I don't think this set will have any special features again. For some reason sets like The Jeffersons, Sanford & Son, and Good Times get no special features except for Columbia Tristar "previews" (227 is getting special features, though). Oh well, at least the episodes are on it.

Here is a sneak peek at the menu screen for disc three for season two:

That's a slight variation of the first season cover released by TimeLife. Interesting they have Rerun on the spine again and not Raj or Dwayne.

Cool, the only difference is, Shirley has been added to the cover.

Yeah, and the two tone background pattern. It does look weird how they stuck Shirley in the back like that. It doesn't look natural.

“Hey, Hey, Hey!” The Classic ‘70s Favorite from the
Executive Producer of “Sanford and Son” Returns

WHAT’S HAPPENING!!
The Second Season

All 22 Bell-Bottomed, Side-Splitting Episodes of Season 2 Available on DVD October 5, 2004

Culver City, CA (July 20, 2004) – Join Rerun, Dwayne, Raj, Shirley, Dee and Mama for the hilarious second season of WHAT’S HAPPENING!!, the cult-classic urban comedy created by Eric Monte (“Good Times”) and executive produced by Bud Yorkin (“Sanford and Son”). Featuring all 22 episodes, WHAT’S HAPPENING!!: THE SECOND SEASON arrives on DVD October 5 in a three-disc set, available for $29.95 SLP from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

Initially a summer replacement show, WHAT’S HAPPENING!! debuted on August 26, 1976, for a limited four-week run on ABC. However, the show quickly caught on with viewers and was rushed back into production for a full season starting in November 1976. The show’s fan base only continued to grow and WHAT’S HAPPENING!! became a solid top-ten hit, lasting for three successful seasons.

Based on Monte’s critically acclaimed movie, Cooley High, WHAT’S HAPPENING!! centers around Raj, Dwayne and Rerun, three best friends growing up in urban Los Angeles whose numerous get-rich-quick schemes never fail to land them in trouble. As the trio navigates through high school, they must also contend with Roger’s mother and his bratty little sister, Dee, not to mention Shirley, who serves up snacks and sass at the local hangout. Starring Fred Berry, Ernest Thomas, Haywood Nelson, Shirley Hemphill, Danielle Spencer, and Mabel King, the cast of WHAT’S HAPPENING!! instantly won over viewers with their enthusiasm, comedic timing and signature phrases like Rerun’s “Hey Hey Hey!” and Dee’s “Oooh, I’m gonna tell mamma.”

The 22 episodes of the second season find the kids dealing with a variety of mishaps, both at home and school: Rerun deciding to marry an illegal alien, discovering the truth behind a religious cult, or getting hit by a diplomat’s son in a borrowed car; Dee getting upset when Bill plans to remarry, or being mistakenly identified by the school psychologist as someone with difficulties; and, finally, Raj with his problems with a school newspaper story, a strike he convinces his co-workers to go on or falling for Dee’s first date’s sister. The classic last show of the season, “The Apartment,” has Raj and Rerun moving into their own place but with little privacy as Mama constantly comes over “to help.”

SPECIAL FEATURES:
• Digitally mastered audio and video
• Full screen presentations
• Audio: English
• Episode selections
• Bonus previews

Episode Summaries:

Disc One

When Rerun meets Maria at Raj’s birthday party, it’s love at first sight. But is he willing to commit to marriage so Maria can stay in the country?

2. IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD
Dee talks to the school psychologist “for a friend,” and everyone naturally thinks she’s the one with troubles at home. When Dee gets wind of the misunderstanding, she sets out to milk her family for all the attention she can get.

3. TRIAL AND ERROR
Raj has an accident on his delivery bike, and takes the unfeeling man who hit him to small claims court. But with Dwayne as his star witness, he may end up in the big house!

4. RAJ GOES TO PRESS
Raj publishes a warning about an upcoming “surprise” test in his new underground newspaper, setting off a class debate over freedom of the press.

5. NOTHING PERSONAL
Shirley quits the soda shop and lands a job as a secretary, despite having few skills. Too late, she discovers the real reason behind why she was hired.

6. IF I’M ELECTED
Dwayne’s dad is running for office and his Uncle Ted is working on the campaign. When Dwayne inadvertently overhears his father angrily fire Ted, he feels torn. That is, until he learns that there are two sides to every story.

7. THE PLAY’S THE BIG THING
Raj hopes that the play he’s written for a school project will get him a job on a hit TV show. There’s only one problem: Rerun, the play’s star, is a terrible actor!

Disc Two

8. GIVE ME ODDS
Rerun’s sister Donna and her husband Ike are Hawaii-bound until Ike, a gambling addict, uses the vacation money to make a bet based on Rerun’s tip.

9. BILL GETS MARRIED
Dee doesn’t like her father’s new girlfriend, and becomes angry when the pair announce they’re getting married – in Dee’s own house!

10. MAMA, THE SCHOOL GIRL
Mama’s in love with a man in her night school class. When she finds out that he’s taking her for a ride and already has a girlfriend, Mama dishes out a little revenge.

11. ONE STRIKE AND YOU’RE OUT
Mama’s health takes her off her feet, making Raj the only breadwinner in the house. He becomes torn between family and principle when he wants to join a strike at the market where he works.

12. THE TESTIMONIAL
When Mrs. Collins puts Raj in detention for being late, he teams up with Dwayne and Rerun to exact revenge. But when Mrs. Collins turns on the charm, the trio is stuck trying to make things right.

13. BLACK AND WHITE BLUES
Raj, Rerun and Dwayne swipe a TV set meant for the church auction, and promptly break it. Now, they’ve got to come up with a solution before their theft is discovered.

14. GOING, GOING, GONG
Raj is so impressed with the quartet he hears at Dee’s school talent night that he becomes their manager, landing them a spot on The Gong Show. But Raj doesn’t count on Rerun, who thinks the show might be his chance at stardom.

Disc Three

15. DEE’S FIRST DATE
Dee’s first date is with TV-obsessed Luther, who loves to tell tall tales. Because Raj hopes
to make time with Luther’s older sister, he helps Dee turn the tables on Luther and glean the truth.

16. DOOBIE OR NOT DOOBIE, PART 1
The Doobie Brothers are giving a concert at the high school, and Raj, Rerun and Dwayne would love to go, but it’s sold out. A fast-talking stranger offers them three front-row tickets, but there are some unexpected strings attached.

17. DOOBIE OR NOT DOOBIE, PART 2
When the Doobie Brothers get wind of the bootlegging scheme, they help the guys turn the tables on the con artist who set them up.

18. RERUN SEES THE LIGHT
Rerun’s new girlfriend is the “high priestess” of a cult that worships lettuce. When he discovers she’s a fraud, Mama steps in to show the group that it’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature!

19. RAJ AND THE OLDER WOMAN
Raj is in love with an “older woman” (she’s 19) who thinks he’s a 21-year-old actor. When she finds out the truth, she decides to let him down easy and have a little fun at the same time.

20. DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY
Rerun’s brother-in-law is out of town, so Rerun decides to “borrow” his car, little expecting to cause an international incident.

21. SHIRLEY IS A MOTHER
With Mama away, Raj enlists Shirley to babysit for Dee. In no time, Shirley finds herself becoming one of the family, and helping out in ways she never imagined.

22. THE APARTMENT
Raj and (finally) Rerun graduate from high school, and are ready to take on the world. Step one is an apartment, but will Mama be able to let them go?

I'm looking forward to everything but these are the episodes I remember most. Of course, DOOBIE OR NOT DOOBIE is classic. And we'll have "Bubblin' Brown Sugar" in our heads non-stop after watching GOING, GOING, GONG. I'm thinking of another episode that's not listed here, so I guess it's season 3? Rerun enters a contest at a disco and has to go up against this hot, popular dancer. All I remember is the guy and that they danced to "Get Up Get Down Get Funky Get Loose" by Teddy Pendergrass.
