It is hard to name the top 5 guitarist but i would never put most of the people named in most of these post, you have to look at overall playing ability and knowledge of music. Most so called rock guitarist just stay in the realm of rock, i personally like all music as long as its done wright. I could name 100 way better guitarist than the people most named already but most people would'nt know who they are anyways so why bother, but i will name a few in no paticular order.
1-Paco De lucia
2-Wes Montgomery
3-Page Hamilton
4-Steve Lukeather
5-Chuck Shuldiner
