Sad Markie Post dies: Night Court and The Fall Guy star was 70

https://deadline.com/2021/08/markie-...70-1234811055/

Post died Saturday morning after a nearly four-year battle with cancer, her manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, tells Deadline. Post is best known for playing public defender Christine Sullivan on NBC's Night Court for 159 episodes between 1984 and 1992. Before that, she starred on 65 episodes of ABC’s The Fall Guy, from 1982 to 1985, as bail bondswoman Terri Michaels. From 1992 to 1995, Post co-starred opposite John Ritter, playing a liberal political reporter on the Linda Bloodworth-Thomason CBS sitcom Hearts Afire. She went on to recur on Scrubs as the mom of Sarah Chalke's Dr. Elliot Reid. In recent years, Post had recurring roles on ABC's The Kids Are Alright and as the mother of Sophia Bush and Lou Taylor Pucci's characters on NBC's Chicago P.D. She also played herself on the Night Court-themed episode of 30 Rock. Post began her career as an associate producer on Alex Trebek’s Double Dare, and began appearing before the camera as a card dealer on NBC’s Card Sharks. She broke into series TV in 1979 with guest roles on CHiPs, The Incredible Hulk and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Post's death comes a month after Night Court co-star Charlie Robinson died at age 75. Her death also comes amid NBC's plans for a Night Court reboot. Post's family said in a statement: “But for us, our pride is in who she was in addition to acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world."

Mini Bio: Markie Post grew up in Walnut Creek, California and started her career on films and TV shows, such as Card Sharks (1978) and "The New Card Sharks" (1986) and went on to even produce such projects as Double Dare (1976) and has made appearances on such television projects as 1st to Die (2003), E! True Hollywood Story (1996) and Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (2001). Perhaps her biggest TV role was as "Christine Sullivan" on Night Court (1984). She appeared in 156 episodes of this comedy, from 1984 to 1992.

Markie Post, an actress known for The Fall Guy and Night Court, has died following a battle with cancer. She was 70.

Post’s manager, Ellen Lubin Sanitsky, confirmed her death to The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday evening.

Post was born in 1950 in Palo Alto, California, and began her career in television by serving as an associate producer on the game series Double Dare, which was hosted by the late Alex Trebek.

She first appeared as an actor on television in the TV movie Frankie and Annette: The Second Time Around. Post appeared in numerous series after that, from comedy show Semi-Tough to crime drama The Gangster Chronicles, Fantasy Island and The Love Boat.

From 1982-85, Post took on the role of Terri Michaels in action adventure series The Fall Guy, opposite Lee Majors, Heather Thomas and Douglas Barr. She went on to play Christine Sullivan in the comedy series Night Court, and later had recurring roles in Hearts Afire and Odd Man Out.

In 1998, Post played Cameron Diaz’s mother in Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s There’s Something About Mary. Post’s more recent credits include Chicago P.D., The Kids Are Alright TV series and Transformers Prime, in which she voiced the character of June Darby.

Post continued pursuing acting roles after her cancer diagnosis, with appearances in shows such as Santa Clarita Diet.

Post’s family shared in a statement, “But for us, our pride is in who she was in addition to acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world.”

Post is survived by her husband, producer and writer Michael A. Ross; and daughters Kate Armstrong Ross and Daisy Schoenborn.

Details of a planned memorial have not yet been shared.

That sucks, Post and Ritter had good chemistry, too bad the show only lasted 3 seasons, rest in peace Post and have fun with Ritter in heaven!

I know that this sounds shallow, but I thought that Markie was more beautiful on Hearts Afire than she was on Night Court. Maybe it's because by then, she had a more flattering and timelesss hairstyle (straight, shoulder length blonde hair with bangs) than the inherently '80s feathered mullet look that she had for most of her run on Night Court.

I thought the same thing and I'm sure that it was for the same reason.

I have never seen Hearts Afire. But I liked the mullet on Night Court, it was a lot better than the really short hair the last few seasons that was not a good look.
