Default SAVE OUR SHOW

I sent my email off to the NBC Universal folks. If you want to use my message as a template, feel free to modify it as you wish. We all need to get NBC to make the final, and CORRECT decision regarding the show. Let's all make it happen!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
To all at NBC Universal,

I would like just a few moments of your time to express my thoughts regarding the renewal of American Dreams.

As avid viewers of this, and many other fine NBC shows, my family and I are concerned that proper attention has not been given to this show. As such, there appears to be a genuine mystery as to whether or not the show will be included in next season’s lineup. I’m sure you are aware; American Dreams has a large fan base that is concerned with keeping quality family programming on television. With the excessive influx of reality shows constantly bombarding us on a daily basis, it’s refreshing when a show the caliber of American Dreams shows up on any networks schedule.

If you are privy to the various fan sites surrounding the show you are no doubt aware of the passion the fans of the show exude. There is a genuine concern that the show is destined for cancellation based solely on the ratings numbers. While we all know this is the major indicator of a shows success, we also know there have been instances in the past where a show was allowed to survive on its merits rather than shear ratings numbers. American Dreams must be one of those shows. The recent move from the Sunday time slot to Wednesdays led some of us to feel it was a death blow for the show. But I wonder if a show of this type could actually survive the ratings game in any time slot. Family programming is certainly not the norm today. Medical and crime shows rule the drama scene. Scripted comedies seem to be a dying flavor right now. And as I said before, reality shows seem to rule the airwaves. Placing a show such as American Dreams anywhere in a network lineup would seem to leave it little chance of success. This is why the ratings numbers alone can not be the deciding factor of the fate of this show.

This is an important show on many levels to many people. The subject matter is as relevant today as it was in the period the show is set in. It touches people in a real way. It connects in an emotional way with families who can genuinely relate to what happens with the characters on the show. It would mean a lot to those of us who watch the show to know what the decision of NBC is with regard to its future. We implore you to judge this show not by it’s ratings alone but by it’s magnificent writing, it’s fabulous cast and the way it touches so many of us in ways no other show on television today can.

On a personal note, a friend of mine worked as a grip on the show from its inception. He would often call me during filming to let me know who the musical acts were. He loved the cast and crew and repeatedly told me it was one of the best shows he has ever worked on. His excitement about the show got me to watch the first episode and I never missed one that followed. No other show has had that kind of impact on me.

In closing, I would urge you to visit some of the American Dreams fan sites on the internet to get a feel for the passion that surrounds this show. To see what those who watch it, almost religiously, have to say and to hear why the show means so much to them. One example of those sites is located at http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...play.php?f=380. Please take a moment to look at it and see what we all are saying about the show. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
(Name withheld for posting)
