Default What Did Your Parents Do For a Living

I just found this one on another forum and it's a good conversation topic, I think.

This is about my parents:

I come from blue collar parents, mom 1909, dad 1910, dad worked for Westinghouse for 40 yrs and when his dad died he and my uncle were given the bar and grille the grands owned and he kept the bar going for many yrs after, mom was housewife and worked in the bar in later years. I grew up in the bar world and was always told, get out of there the ABC people could come in, children were not allowed in bars.

We had little but had Enough and well fed and clothed. And I'm probably one of the most
grateful people around.

Dad worked for the phone company and mom was a secretary/receptionist. Both parents were hard working. They taught me and my brother good work ethics.

Dad worked at General Electric, until he died when I was 7.

Mom worked as a secretary at a life insurance agency, she never remarried, but had an interesting succession of boyfriends that gave me a broad experience that I don't think one could get any other way.

Prior to my school years, since both parents worked, I would spend "1st shift" at a babysitters house, who was a kind, doting woman who labored to spoil me. During those years I truly felt as though I had two moms.

My mom worked for a dentist for awhile until she found out the guy was paying a new worker the same price he was paying my mom! (My mom didnt start out at that rate like the other one did) They got in an argument and she left..........

I guess why they say its not good to talk about Saleries........ (The BOSS can really say how much someone gets)

My dad worked for some water company for years...... Then he worked for the state for awhile.......

I've learned over my many jobs, it is NOT smart at all to discuss salaries with anyone in your office or area. I did one time and the person I talked to went to the boss and tattled on me....I left that job soon after....it was only job too that a paycheck bounced....

My dad was an aircraft engine fuel controls engineer for most of his career (quality control, fighter aircraft) for the Bendix Corp. in Indiana - later taken over by Allied-Signal.

My mom was a homemaker, spending lots of time doing sewing & alterations for family & friends, as she'd been trained as a seamstress as a young girl.

My dad was a baker. And my mom was a dietician.

So we had some good food, but in healthy amounts.

My dad worked as an accountant for AT&T/Lucent Technologies for many years. He did pretty good for himself after taking only a few college courses. He later worked for Target when he was forced to take an early retirement.

My mom is a homemaker. She was married at age 19. She worked as a secretary at his job. She did some babysitting on the side for some extra cash. It would have been easier with two incomes, but we got by and had enough for a family of five.
