Just finished watching! The gangs at their finest. Lucy's fixated with numerology and astrology and everyone has their number (we've had Lucy's for a long time!! ha ha--sorry--couldn't resist). Everything that day is ruled by what the stars and integers have to say. And they say this isn't a good day for Ricky. So Lucy accidentally nixes an important business offer with a producer calling for Ricky. When Ricky finds out, he's steamed & makes Lucy go down with him to beg Mr. Merriweather for the job again. But what luck! Mr. M's a zodiac (and Ouiji freak) too. So Lucy, in her munificence, and without any ulterior motives of course, arranges a seance that night for Mr. M--so he can commune with his long lost Tillie. Well, feverish minds are all aflutter, as Lucy and Fred both conspire to be the voice of the long lost female. But Mr. M throws in a little surprise too, it turns out Tillie is not Mrs. M--so Fred and Lucy think a real spirit was present. And indeed, the hijinks are spirited; Ethel is especially a HOOT dressed up to the "nines" as the medium.

What a great episode! Two of my favorite lines come from this show:
"Ethel to Tillie. Ethel to Tillie. Come in Tillie. Over." and "Well done, Medium Raya!" Some things I noticed: In Mr. Merriweather's office you can see the shadow of the filming crew move on the door. If Lucy and Ethel were so close and were into numerology and astrology, why did Lucy have to ask Ethel what sign she was? How did Lucy burn herself on an unlit fireplace? Why did Ricky need to get ice when they didn't offer anyone drinks?

This is such a great episode! I
at Lucy's "its hot here" and the guy saying something along the lines of "tilly is that where you are!" LMAO!Gotta love Ethel, Lucy and Fred searching around the room thinking they really contacted a ghost! |

Also note that each of them have odd numbers, in which Mr. Meriweather states, "We are all odd, aren't we?"
This is another episode where out of the blue we see Lucy into numerolgy. Never mentioned it before and since. Chalk this up under One Episode Wonders. The man who played Mr. Meriweather, Jay Novello, you will see him again in an episode after the fab four returns from Europe. It is in the sixth season and it is called VISITOR FROM ITALY. He is supposedly someone they had run into in Italy, though we never seen such a meeting. We hear in this episode that he was a gondolier. Anyhoo, he drops by the Ricardos on his way to visit his sick brother. Well, won't give too much away but let's just say he is stuck with the Ricardos for a short while (a la Tennesse Ernie Ford). Jay Novello also appeared in an episode in the third season called THE SUBLEASE. Ricky and Lucy are supposed to leave out of town for the summer and so they sublease their apt. which causes a minor fight among the fab four. They resolve the issue and only encounter another issue when Ricky's out of town summer gig is canceled. What to do now since this man (Jay Novello) won't leave the apartment? Hmmmmm, leave it to Lucy to figure out something.

One more inconsistency:
At the beginning of the show Ricky tells Lucy how silly she is for being superstitious. But a couple of minutes later, he says that he doesn't want to discuss a big business deal with her because it's bad luck to talk about a deal before it happens. It's also strange that when Mr. Merriweather ask Lucy if she Ouijis, she says "I haven't gotten around to that yet!" - a funny line, she seems confused by what Ouiji means. Yet a couple of lines later, she mentions that she has a seance at her place coming up that night ! The conversation with Merriwheather and the seance are among my favorite scenes. |

The Seance was a good way to get on the good graces on Mr. Meriwether so he can offer Ricky a job- and it worked!
