I can tell you the exact second the show went down the drain, and exactly how it started. If you'll remember, in 1982-1984, Ricky Schroder played the innocent, cute, little boy, Ricky Stratton. In 1984, he became "cool" and "punkish" with one episode. He wore a lot of black, specifically black gloves and jackets to impress a girl. In that episode, EVERYTHING goes: the train set, the exquisite toys, EVERYTHING. After that, the show was never the same. The next year, he "changed" his name to the present incarnation of "Rick" Schroder. Gone was the innocence. Gone was the little kid voice. Gone was the little kid clothes. Gone were the toys and everything that made him "rich." He simply became your regular teenager. The plots weren't as interesting anymore, and the show died a slow, agonizing death in 1986-1987.
