I found out that Hal Williams left Sanford and Son after the 19774-75 season to star in a new Show called (ON THE ROCKS) which premeired on ABC on September 11, 1975. The show only ran until May of 1976 and Hal Williams returned to Sanford and Son to play Officer Smitty in the episode "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" in December of 1976. That was his final appearance as Officer Smitty.
