In a way, she's right, she doesn't owe any of us the time of day, she has her full ride to the college of her choice and she has her boyfriend and she likes to remind everyone of how much better she is than us. I don't believe she's that much better, but she does, and it gets her through the day.
The other one would be one of my best friends. She has everything going for her, but she never brings it up, unless she's super excited about something, and she never shoves it in anyone's face.

Your second friend has the same thing that Mary Richards did; grace. Your first friend makes the mistake of assuming that circumstances in her life will NEVER change, and she's alienating everyone that she might need as a friend some day, based on the foolish assumption that she'll never need anyone.
Mary and friend number two "get it" that looks are transitory, as are things like money and position. There's a great saying I like to quote from time to time, that I think applies here. "Appreciate beauty, invest in character." Character is going to get Mary and those like her through lots of obstacles in her life, while beauty is a thing to be put on a shelf and admired for a moment, but not dwelt upon.
