Fans of a legendary baseball announcer are petitioning for him to get the gig calling the World Series on Fox this year, reports the New York Post.
L.A. Dodgers voice Vin Scully is 83, and still works about 110 Dodgers games per year. He started calling for the team in 1950, when the Dodgers were still based in Brooklyn, the piece notes.
"As his career comes closer to an end, I feel that this great man and broadcaster needs to have one more chance to shine when the stage shines the brightest, The World Series," the petition says. The request is addressed to "Fox Corporation" and had attracted more than 2,000 signatures as of Thursday morning.
Scully declined to comment, although insiders said he isn't interested in working another World Series, the story notes. Scully's last World Series was in 1988, when the Dodgers beat the Oakland A’s.
