At the time I moved myself (1982), I'd known them for more than ten years...and they were never burglarized... crime was by no means a problem in my town, but even back then we were all pretty amazed about the whole thing... I'm sure they didn't publicize this fact heavilly, but there were certainly a number of people who knew about this, including some friends of the kids (2 girls and a boy)...This was in a suburban area, and back then, pretty much all of the neighbors knew each other by name, as did the kids...
(and no, I'm NOT giving out their address!)

Most of the time I was growing up in Carmichael in the 70s we didn't lock our doors. Now my mother not only locks the doors, she has a burglar alarm. Times have changed!
