I used to love DS from the time I was a baby until it went off. I always had a fondness for the show, but it was so hard to find in syndication.
Dana's death saddened me, but it had been years since I'd seen a rerun of it so it really didn't do much except for the fact that it was a shame. Todd Bridges' arrest in 88 or 89 was the most shocking IMO because that was the first real "scandal" behind the show and I was so used to him as Willis.
Dana's death doesn't spoil the show IMO. It's like saying you can't watch the first 3 seasons of Cheers (as the guy who played Coach died in between the third and fourth season), or the first 3 seasons of Night Court (as both Selma Diamond and her replacement Florence Halop died).
