Punk, as in Clash/Ramones/Sex Pistols/Dead Kennedys late-70's sort of genre thing with spiked hair and snarling attitude?

Well, punk is more than just those effects, it's more of an anti-corporate attitude, an unwillingness to let the "trendy" thing dictate how you want to live and think and dress.

Okay, to be into REAL punk, get into the above artists, don't look to Blink-182
or the trendy pop-punk stuff, like Green Day (they might be okay in small doses), but go for the early punk stuff:
The Ramones
The Clash
The Sex Pistols
The Damned
The Stranglers
The Jam
Generation X (featuring a pre-stardom Billy Idol)
Black Flag
Dead Kennedys
Anti-Nowhere League
Minor Threat
Killing Joke

And that's just for starters. I hate to sound corporate, but you may find some t-shirts of the above bands at Hot Topic (if there are no good record stores, etc., in your area that cater to more of the underground crowd).
If there is one of the bands above that appeals to you, find out more about the bands and see about purchasing or subscribing to underground or punk rock magazines (and I can't even think of which ones, but try looking some up online). Also remember there are many strands of punk and hardcore, many of them have specific audiences, like straight edge or others. With looking a certain way, there is no set way, but always keep in mind that true punk is about being yourself and not selling out to corporate whatever telling you to be a certain way. Be careful of when some "punk" things act like punk is something you can "buy" over the counter. The proper attitude comes first. Your attitude about yourself and about things around you, Not simply "'tude".
