I'd disagree with this slightly - Ok, the show hadn't fully blossomed into the classic it became known as, but they're still worth watching, and especially for establishing the relationships between the original characters and their family (especially the first Christmas episode which features the return of Del & Rodney's father).
But, DON'T bother with the recent 2001 Christmas episode - to my mind the series ended perfectly in the mid-90s and it should have stayed there. It seems someone at the BBC was salivating over the prospect of high ratings figures rather than concerning themselves with well-written programmes. Sadly, this episode didn't meet the high standards of the programme's history.
So.....stick with any of the others....especially "The Jolly Boy's Outing" (my personal favourite).
