Season Two Episodes
Ep23: Life With New Babies:
Eric and Lilly get spoiled as their 3 month old daughter (Shannon) sleeps al the way through the night, as Rick and Katie are challenged as their 3 month old son (Kevin) is up all night crying. Gracie is glad she doesn't have any kids yet after seeing the ups and downs of having babies.
Ep24: Homecoming And Coming Home:
As Jane and Gracie help Meghan find a homecoming dress at the mall, Paula tells them that she and Hank are separated, and that she has bought an apartment across town.
Ep25: Happy Grandmothers:
Paula (Bette Midler), Rick's mom-Sharon (Penny Marshall), and Eric's mom-Hillary (Marlo Thomas) drop by to their grandsons and graddaughters. Jane reluctantly goes out to eat with Roger (Ed O'Neill) and end up realizing how much each other really misses the other. Jane and Roger share a kiss after the date at Jane's Java.
Ep26: Pushy Bosses:
Lilly's request for another 3 months of maternity leave is denied by her boss, Carla (Phylisia Rashad). Rick is forced to attend a business trip to Toronto, Rick is truly angry about leaving Katie with the three kids now. Rick threatens to quit his job if his boss sends him on another business trip without any warning.
Ep27: Jane's Older Sister:
Jane gets a visit from her older sister, Mary (Liz Sheridan) who has news of her husband of 30 years has been killed in a car accident. Jane feels bad for Mary, who is desperate to rekindle her friendship with her sister after many years of being distant. Gracie learns Paula is looking forward to entering the dating world so soon after beign separated from Hank.
Ep28: Baby Blues:
With Eric gone at work, Lilly soon realizes baby Shannon has came down with a cold. An inexperienced Lilly freaks out and calls Katie and Paula over for some advice on how to handle Shannon's cold. Gracie takes Morgan and Aaron to the park, where Gracie finds a lot of single fathers and begs the kids to pretend to be her kids in order to get a date with one of the hunky, young, single dads.
Ep29: Say Good-Night Gracie:
Gracie almost gets hit by a car, but is recued in time by a hunky stranger-Paul (Matthew McCaughney). Paul and Gracie go out to dinner on Gracie for him saving her life. Paul soon tells Gracie he is not ready to date anyone so soon after his late wife's death 2 years ago, but that they can just mess around a little. At first, Gracie is upset, but after thinking about it, she agrees to take him up on his offer. Katie and Lilly are not pleased with Gracie's idea to foul around with a widower who just saved her life.
Ep30: Shut Up and Kiss Me:
Jane and Roger decide to elope (again) in Vegas. The sisters are shocked that Jane's remarrying Roger. Jane decides to let Katie, Gracie, Lilly, Eric, and Rick attend their wedding in Vegas. Rick and Eric are a little uncomfortable about going back to Vegas (after having gaven an elderly man a heart attack 6 months ago). Eric and Rick decide to stay back with the four kids and let their wives and Gracie attend Jane's wedding.
Ep31: Loving You:
Hank returns to town with some important that he has to share with his daughters. But before Hank can tell his news, Paula arrives and gives Hank some divorce papers. Hank briefly signs them in order to tell his news to the girls. Hank spills the news to Lilly, Katie, Gracie, Rick, Eric, and Paula (at the same time)-that he recently found out he has lung cancer and has 2 years to live.
Ep32: How Dare You:
After hearing Hank's sad news, the girls are truly upset and scared. Paula feels bad about divorcing her dying soon-to-be-ex-hubby. Paula rips out the papers, after the girls confront her about them. Eric and Rick are intrigued about their father-in-law having lung cancer.
Ep33: Brother, Oh Brother:
Rick's yuppie older brother, Jack (John Travolta) pays a visit to Rick and Katie. Jack tells them the news that he is now single after his wife of 10 years has left him for her boss. Jack and Gracie meet and are instantly attracted to each other. Rick is uncomfortable about having his yuppie brother dating his flaky sister-in-law.
Ep34: Jane's Java Going Outta Business?:
Jane tells Gracie and Meghan that they should start looking for a new job, since Jane is going to be closing Jane's Java. Jane and Roger plan to move to Florida to be near their only son. Meghan applies and gets hired at a clothing store at the mall. Gracie begs Rick to hire her as his personal assistant. At first, Rick says no, but eventually changes his mind after seeing how badly Gracie needs a job.
Ep35: Farewell Jane:
Jane (and Roger)'s going away party is thrown at Jane's Java, before Jane sells the coffee shop to another businessman. The girls will miss Jane. Jane has a heart-to-heart chat with each of the girls to give each of them a nice, loving talk with a little advice thrown in like usual.
(Last Episode as Jane (Candice Bergen) as part of main cast. Meghan (Megan Fox) is never shown after this episode.)
Ep36: Eric's Little Sister:
Eric's kid sister, Claire (Tori Spelling) stops by for a visit. Lilly and Eric realize they need to choose a godmother and godfather for Shannon. They choose Rick and Katie (who also choose Lilly and Eric to be Kevin's godparents). Claire is upsetted by this, and so is Gracie. Paula and Hank go to a doctor's appointment of Hank's, but Paula can't stop tearing up during the meeting-which gets on Hank's and the doctor's last nerves.
Ep37: Long Lost Lover:
Paula's old college flame, Pete (Dan Lauria) arrives in town to sweep Paula off her feet. Paula is stuck choosing between Hank and Pete. Lilly gets the flu and is worried that she is give it to Shannon, so she decides to go stay with Paula for the meantime. Lilly soon realizes that her mom is stuck between two men and helps her choose Hank.
Ep38: Starry Nights:
Rick and Eric take Morgan and Aaron camping, as Katie and Lilly stayed with Shannon and Kevin. Gracie goes out to eat with Hank without telling her sisters, who find out and are eager to find out what was said at the dinner.
Ep39: Kids And More Kids:
Aaron wants a party for his 6th birthday with all his friends. Rick and Katie beg Eric, Lilly, and Gracie to help them with the party and watching all 20 kids. Paula and Hank watch Shannon and Kevin for the day.
Ep40: Price Vs. Spencer:
Rick and Katie challenge Eric and Lilly to a game of Trivia Pursuit and form teams based upon spouses. In the middle of a heated agruement (about who did/did not cheat), Gracie storms in from her "last date" with Rick's brother, Jack. Gracie tells them that Jack was caught flirting with the younger waitress as Gracie sat right there next to him. Rick shows no sympathy for Gracie, as he told her already what Jack is like and she didn't listen. Katie, Eric, and Lilly convince Rick to go talk to Jack and tell him to apologize to Gracie.
Ep41: Turn For The Worst:
Hank's cancer takes a turn for the worst, and is put in the hospital. Paula, Gracie, Katie, Lilly, Rick, and Eric visit Hank (as the four kids are left with Meghan-who is not shown, just talked about). Paula and the girls fear the worst for Hank. Hank dies during his sleep during the night. The nurse shares the bad news to the family the next morning. (The next four episode are real, heart-wrenching, sad episodes. But the next season will be back to his comedic self again).
Ep42: This Can Not Happen:
Paula and the girls are devastated. Rick and Eric console their mourning wives, and Paula and Gracie console each other. Paula and the kids must work together and start planning the funeral.
Ep43: Calling Family And Friends:
Lilly, Katie, and Gracie must call friends and family to tell them about Hank's death. The girls find it extremely hard not to break down crying on the phone. Paula decides to have Hank cremated. Seeing Hank die and how everyone is affected reminds Rick of how it was when his father died 7 years ago.
Ep44: No Fun In Funerals:
Paula, Katie, Lilly, Gracie, Eric, Shannon, Rick, Morgan, Aaron, Kevin, and other friends, and other family members show up and attend Hank's funeral. Paula, Katie, Lilly, and Gracie each stand up in front and have something to say about Hank at the funeral.
